Hi, thanks for the uploading, very hekpful to learn about this kit, just a couple of curiosity questions; do you modify carburator and valves as well? is the kit supplied with new valves? Is new cylinders generated torque compromising the transmission ? thank you !!

@CarloPoma-vy5ov Hi. No change to carbs at all. Seems to work good. Transmission is the same as an R100 so I doubt that's an issue. Thanks 😀

The video provides no real technical discussion/information whatsoever. Are there any other ones that do? I notice Siebenrock make different power claims for the 450 and 650 & was wondering why ... Different cams? Different heads & valves? Surprised re-carburation wasn't mentioned as surely an 860 can use a bigger ones/re-jet. It would have been a lot more useful & interesting that cringeworthy mention of vaseline.

Ah 😊 I just do this for fun you know ;) So a little information for you. Yes the r45 and r65 have different heads with different valve sizes and compression ratios which is probably why the upgrade quotes different power outputs. No jetting was required. I even called them to ask. I checked the state of the plugs to get an idea of the tune but they seemed a normal colour all of the time. I guess the increased volume of air still pulls the same mix through or maybe the bigger pistons swirl it better... dunno but I'd not worry about it. Very useful lubricant Vaseline is. You ask my dentist! 😁

Oh, any other questions feel free to ask. Fitting was a cinch really. Makes the R45 usable in modern traffic.

@@theoldgraywindpassertest I'll have to look into it. I don't see any video on YT breaking it down, nor on the company's own website. Combustion chamber capacity might be the first determining factor, especially of compression ratios, however, valve & port sizes would certainly make a difference. The site doesn't even say what the difference between 65 and 45 kits are. Can you not just stick R65 heads on top of such a kit & is their "asymmetric cam", a true performance cam or is it just for the restricted models?
@theoldgraywindpassertest
@theoldgraywindpassertest Ай бұрын
@@jonahwhale9047 I know you can put r65 heads on a r45 but the compression rates are different due to the squish. They recommend using the asymmetric cam too but there is such little gain I don’t think it’s worth it. Buy the kit, fit and enjoy. I really can’t worry about the finer details, life’s too short :)
@jonahwhale9047

@@theoldgraywindpassertest Perhaps someone else will know? The claimed torque outputs are noticeable different, 75 Nm at 4,200 rpm versus 70 Nm at 2,240 rpm, although they don't state BHP. Perhaps it's the final gearing that makes the difference if that is measured at the rear wheel? They came in different ratios for the big bikes. TBH, 70 at 2.2k is probably more useful than 75 at 4.2k ... but I'd like to see a dyno sheet. I'm guessing that top speed is governed by the final drive but, again, have no idea if there are differences there. I would have expected the R45 to have had a smaller chamber, hence higher compression, & perhaps the cam is designed to change the timing of it? Really, the first question that comes up is, is it financially worth it, e.g. to buy a R45 & turn it into an 860 versus buying an R80 or R100. The answer to that could well be yes as R45 were less desirable, & less stressed when ridden. Few people did high mileages on them.

Bolting in the biggest engine you can start with is often pleasantly cheap, especially in the US where these machines sell for next to nothing being long obsolete for touring. Then add a displacement boost and it's all win.

@@theoldgraywindpassertest At the minute I feel everything. Was supposed to be a good bike but only done 100 miles in the year before I brought it. Gave it a full service, developed fuel leaks, lack of power - it's always been like it. Play in the rear end, all bearings replaced. New pattern injectors, second hand lamba sensor. Buggered wiring all totally corroded. Had to drill exhaust studs out and the list goes on. Thank god I've got my MT07 to use as bikes are my only mode of transport.

On Power, I had an R65 for about 3 years. I ran with others who mostly had R100's but didn't lag behind much as it got up to 110 mph (indicated) very quickly the few times there was a straight road and no police. After that it was a series of R100RS's which I took to top speed a few times but mostly only used the power to pass. I noticed it stumbled right around 100 mph. On having to do a top end I asked to put in dual plugs and a few other mods but nothing which would hurt the engine's reliability. With that I could get it up to 125 very smoothly from it's stumbling to 120 beforehand. Now I have an F800 which is a wonderful performer but seldom bring it above 80 and have never taken it to full speed. None the less it's always satisfying to know your machine is running at it's peak.

This is the bit I looked at taken from the DVLA website The following are considered acceptable (not substantial) changes if they fall into these specific categories: • changes that are made to preserve a vehicle, which in all cases must be when original type parts are no longer reasonably available; • changes of a type, that can be demonstrated to have been made when vehicles of the type were in production or in general use (within ten years of the end of production); • in respect of axles and running gear changes made to improve efficiency, safety or environmental performance; • in respect of vehicles that have been commercial vehicles, changes which can be demonstrated were being made when they were used commercially. How many loss adjusters strip an engine to measure the cc? It's still an old man's bike, not a boy racer machine. I'd say, just give them a wipe down to make them look old, or beadblast your engine to make it look equal new! I don't follow the latest developments with th DVLA though ...
