You want the rebar to be in the bottom third of the concrete footing to give it the tensile strength. And you definitely never want rebar laying on the ground. I have always used rebar chairs for concrete work.

Seriously, if you're a pro, why are you even using ICF? So much better ways to build a home.
@sparksmcgee66412 күн бұрын
ICFs haven't become mainstream for a reason. There are much better ways to build for way less money. Thermomass CIP is what im using now and its not the outrageous price of ICF and a MUCH better wall.

Just want to comment that you (and virtually everyone else) failed to explain ACH50 fully and fairly. It sounds good to say that building code allows 3 air changes per hour... but that only happens under condition where the pressure differential between inside and outside the home is at 50 pascals. This would be a sustained 20mph wind from all directions hitting the outside of your home... something that no home experiences ever (wind doesn't blow from all directions) and the windiest city in the US is Dodge City Kansas at 15mph average wind speed. So the reality is, a home with a 3 ACH 50, will likely see FAR fewer than 3 air changes per hour except during extreme weather events. 50 pascals was chosen so that the leakage rate was exaggerated to make measurements more accurate without having to have blower door fans calibrated to the cubic inch per minute. ACH50 is a way to compare two buildings and access the performance... not a practical measurement.

i got a question. i had an engineer come in and i have an older style roof. everywhere i look i see people cutting the joices. In my case my cieling is exposed. and ive been "told" id be able to lay the baem on top of the exsiting joices to avoid a support wall and cutting. beam would go up and in. attatch hardware. then proceed to remove old posts and run new ones. once braced take down the old support wall. i cant find videos or anything on it but they say it works. is this true?

Spray Foam here in Germany or Europe in General is a big no no. If someone prior building get hisself knowledge about expansion coefficient you know every material got a different expansion coefficient and the would frame is always a thermal bridge. That's why we mostly build here in bricks and insulate the outside. But ICF gets me because of the fact that you'll get ACH Rates above Passive House, by the way I live just 7km away from Darmstadt the Passive House Institute. Greetings from Germany

I know this is kinda old now, but thanks for leaving it up. I have these drawers in my kitchen and one of the rails pulled loose. Contractor seems to have only put one screw in the front part of each of them so weight was just eventually enough. And I couldn't remember how to take them out without disassembling them so this helped me a TON. I also used the opportunity to reinforce the rails -- recommended for anyone using the large size maximera for dishes/pots/pans.
