I am so jealous of you woodturners in the US. You are spoilt for choices! Where I live South Africa, we have very limited options for turning tools! Love those Carter & Son tools!

Missed the live. Just watched when I got home and I completely agree that jam chucks are extremely important tools in your arsenal! I really had no idea what they were and how useful they are when I first started turning 20 yrs ago or so.

Is the waterfall piece from a burl?
@cindydrozdaАй бұрын
Yes, the Waterfall is made from Maple burl that is dyed with transparent dyes. I show that technique in the video.

I missed the live stream this afternoon. I was tied up in my shop. I was installing a pair of MrCool mini-split A/C units. Well, actually I was watching my son-in-law do most of the work. We/he should finish the work tomorrow. Hopefully that will end the 98 degree days in the shop. They will help in the winter too. Even though I am in Florida winters get cold enough that I cannot work in the shop sometimes.🙂🙂 PS, Have registered for SWAT and have my airline tickets too. Looking forward to seeing you there.

I was skeptical, but watched through your explanation. You answered all my questions, and some I didn´t think of. I will re purpose some tool or another and I look forward to making better fitting lids. Picture - in - picture, or whatever that video technique was, helped a lot. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video

This was a great session Cindy. I couldn't watch live because I had a power failure at noon and it took the power company three hours to restore service. I hope to be with you live at the next session. Take care.🙂🙂

Yes, you can put the John Jordan bars in the Jamieson D-handle. The smaller ones need an adapter.

Hi Cindy. I’m new to turning but have watched a TON of videos. Your name kept popping up as one of the better turners out there so glad to finally watch you. So much mixed info out there, regarding (among other things) proper grinds for gouges, negative rake, etc. Stuart Batty was one of the better ones I’ve watched in terms of his analytical approach (he mentioned your name as being one of the best out there, btw). Most people are like “well there’s no one right way, it’s your preference, which may be partially true but I feel like we’re also talking about basic mechanics (or advanced 😉) in terms of an edge against wood in different directions so it’s helpful to learn of the 40 40 grind etc. Anyway, since I’m barely getting started I want to use the best info possible to learn. Thx for your great teaching and sharing your expertise. Cheers, Chris

Very Nice presentation. I started turning since 1998. I was very interested in hollowing, I had used several hollowing systems you mentioned in your presentation. Like antique hollowing bar, Dennis Stuart hollowing system, Mighty Midget from Woodcut, Elbo System, Lyle Jamieson hollowing system. They all have good points when I used them. Some required more efforts. Like Dennis Stuart system. As time went by I started to looked for easier way to save efforts. The Elbo tool(I) I had worked fine. But when the heavy arm dropped that cause the cutter to lost contact became very annoying. Tim wasn’t able to provide any upgrade solution. I purchased Lyle’s system. It needs a lot more space to maneuver the D-arm. Not convenient to use it. Your setup is very impressive. Plenty of space in your shop. The D-Arm guide on the toolrest will allow you to reach out the wide vessel far end easily. The other day I tried to use my old Jet mini lathe’s toolrest to support the Elbo tool’s arm near the tail stock. It seems to provide some relieve during hollowing.

I had to catch you on this replay as I was attending the Florida Woodturning Symposium in Lakeland Florida. Got to see Rebecca Degroot, Stuart Batty and Trent Bosch plus some local turners. It's a good show but not quite up to SWAT. I have never done any texturing but this video made it look interesting. So, what the heck, I just ordered a Sorby Micro Texturing tool. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 PS I am already looking forward to SWAT. PPS I bought a very large piece of camphor. After a 200 mile drive home the car sure smells good.😄
