I don't see the purpose of the chunk cut away. seems to me the big thing is the wedge shaped hinge. the thick back of it is against the lean and stops the lean taking control so the tree falls 'sideways' - i.e. the way you want it to - under the influence of that much of the centre of gravity that is on that side. the influence of the centre of gravity that is 'forward' - i.e. on the lean side - is counteracted, 'stopped', by the thick wedge shaped hinge, the thick bit being, as said, at the 'back' of the lean, the tension side. So that being the case where's the usefulness of the chunk cut away?

They have a 31cc. The XL has a 29cc or 26cc I think

Have two super 2's and one XL . One was. New old stock I found looks like it's never been used. 16" bar on it. Others have 14" bars. They run awesome

I was shocked to see that you have not accomplished a proper face cut, and are attempting a more advanced technique.
@matthiasmacandrew12678 ай бұрын
Great explanation! Seems the face cut is a bit too deep IMO. Also that saw seems to be struggling… may need a bark box or a M-tronic reset? My 400c would bust that out no problem 😎
@rickdebacker1008 ай бұрын
That face-cut was Ugly! Exactly how I do em when I try for that humboldt cut.... I have ended up with the face cut so deep after 'cleaning it up' that I'm amazed the tree is still standing on it's own. I just keep on practicing and sticking to my masters studies at KZbin University.

Who the f showed you this technique and show me where it says a zero degree it should be 10-15 degree and why tf would you grind half the top plate off what’s the point you can’t sharpen the length congratulations you just made a chain that’s 75% raker pretty much it makes more sense to square fold those cutters you took half the top plate off

Looks fun, I’ve been milling oak with my 72cc saw and it works just fine with both ripping and full chisel but I do like the finish of the rip chain better. One thing I learned about using wedges is that you only want to put them in by hand, if you wack them in there you actually mess up your cut. Other than that have fun! God bless!
@garyj5943 Жыл бұрын
What saw are you using. Im going to buy a saw for milling some eastern red cedar mostly and some oak. I was hoping i could get a 70cc saw to work for milling and still be useful for felling and bucking too.

Granberg says the 36 will cut up to 32 inch slabs. I just got my 36 and need to mount it up and see what it really is. I already know I need a bigger saw and longer rails. I have a monster Ash tree to get home and sliced up. It will take at least 6ft to get thru the crotch section.

Vintage Homelite chainsaws, along with every brand of a vintage chainsaw is still the best today. My stepdad used to have a vintage McCullough eager beaver chainsaw from the 80s which is a top handle chainsaw (before he passed in 2017), and hell it still worked without issues. I wish we didn’t get rid of the old McCulloch.

have you considered cutting with the top of the bar? and having the shavings eject opposite the controlls and operator vs using the bottom.of the bar and running it all thru the sprocket clutch and onto operator pathway.
@markheintz1878 Жыл бұрын
Saws are designed to pull a chain, not push it, but your logic makes sense in theory.
@Slatari2 жыл бұрын
Advice; score the tree lightly ( bark deep) around your undercut to see if your cuts line up before committing to the cut. Ajust as needed.

I have same set up and no problems cutting. Take dogs off saw and you'll get a 29'' width. Use wedges to keep pressure of bar and slow down on cutting. I put wedge in cut after 1' in I put a wedge in the end of my log. After about 30'' in, put wedges 1 on each side and continue. Don't put any wieght on power head actually give a little pick up on it while pulling trottle and the 661 will cut just about anything. If you don't operate saw properly you will have same issues with 880. I have both 661 and 880 and they are beast. Good luck all looks great.

an (additional) scarf cut on the lower part of the face cut might allow more free fall before the face cut closes, so that the holding wood holds for a slightly longer time.
@tucanman97753 жыл бұрын
you take the teeth off dude but you need longer rails to take advantage of 3 inches
@ledenhimeganidleshitz1443 жыл бұрын
Make your own chain! Double the number of scoring teeth. This decreases the need for a big saw but it will cut a bit slower. If you don't mill much it will save the big cash layout.

You can adjust all those things, using the filing jig. Sharpening, gulleting , rakers, all using the Grandberg filing jig. Fitting a small flat file in for the rakers, staight after you file your clearing cutters at 0 degrees. Much easier and more precise.

I love a razor sharp chain. I don’t loan my saws for that reason. Not long ago a friend needed a saw ,even thou I have 3 I couldn’t let it go so I bought him one. He went to the woodpile happy as a new saw owner can be. Put oil in the oil chamber and gas in the gas tank. Had that happy look on his face ,see he’s 38 y.o. First saw and I bought it. He got to the wood pile in one piece and he had that (“I just climb that mountain rest is a breeze. After all what can happen on a deck of clean fir ,no bark and did say 18 “ logs cut in 16 “ long..this is where I explain why I keep my saws for me all 3 of them. He’s ready to go the bull is blowing snot and he is ready That saw was wound up tighter than a $2.50 carnival watch screaming to get wood I screaming. The piston soon realized
@daleboe89123 жыл бұрын
When I looked I c no oil in the gas it burned hot so hot it melted the piston and completely distroyed the saw I bought him. Next time you see me don’t ask for my saw. I might take the first one tie it around your neck and throw it overboard.please don’t ask to borrow my saw, my dad, brother,sister or moms saw ,be safe say now to borrowed saws. A you will stand better chance in COVID ward At hospital that borrow my saws, use his ,there’s anyone’s but mine.
