When I saw this show, I grew up in 5 minutes. I realized Captain Tugg was not real. I am so glad I came into reality this ole way!

Hello, I really like your site, and I am hoping that you are willing to share some more info with me. I have been researching circle 4 ranch. It seems like you know a lot about it. It says that the muppets audio was pre-recorded and that several audio recordings have survived. On the audio clips page of your site, it says that they are stored at apple blossom studios, Winchester, Virginia. But I am not able to find any info on this place. I would like to know where apple blossom studios is, and who I could contact to find out more about those audio recordings. also, I was wondering if you have any footage from circle 4 ranch that you haven’t yet posted on youtube.

I watched Pick Temple on TV during the 1961-1962 and 1962-1963 season on WFIL TV which is now WPVI TV. I was a very big fan of that show; his characters such as Goofy the Gopher blew my mind along with the shuttle races. I would have loved to been on his show. I would see Popeye cartoons on the show (my favorite) and the Lone Ranger. The theme song along with the opening credits were very nice as well. God Rest our dear old friend, Lafayette Parker Temple Jr. aka Pick Temple.

@rslitman My mother was also in the Brownies when they went to see Bozo. She always tells the story of how Bozo took her hair and told her "Your hairs so long, you could have a mustache!" and she also tells about how she discovered how Bozo made his nose squeak...he had a little horn in his hand that he would honk anytime somebody squeezed his nose. I'll ask her when she saw him, its very likely she was with you all. :D

After an early graduation from Forest Hills High School in Queens, NY in 1945, during World War II, Bob Keeshan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, but was still residing within the United States when Japan surrendered. There is no mention at his Wikipedia page whether he reached the rank of Captain.

At 3:14 the black child is me.. I ended up on his show and one of the games he had was to see how many clothes pins you could drop into milk bottles in 10 seconds. On the show of course you had to wear a cowboy outfit and back then damn near every child had a western outfit with six shooters.. Different world

@coporal410 жыл бұрын
matrox That had to be between 1956-1957 when I was 5 or 6.. don't remember the location it was a Giant/Safeway store that was in N.W. D.C. I think dad or I heard where the opening was going to be through flyers or T.V. and took me there. I wish I had kept the little book that was handed to all of us.. Another lifetime.
@coporal410 жыл бұрын
matrox It was a good time in life for some kids unless you lived in Alabama, Mississippi or one of the southern states and even crossing into Virginia by trolley car you had to move to the back.. the trolley would stop before it crossed the Potomac River and all blacks had to move to the back. Crazy world

Ranger Hal was a great children's show. He came to Suitland, Maryland in the sixties. Ranger Hal brought large black & white photo's of himself and signed the photo in person. There were a few miles of people/kids waiting to see him. He saw everyone before leaving.

I used to love this show as a kid growing up in D.C.! I, too, at age six, thought the "Channel Queen" was a real tug. Indeed; it does appear that Cap't Tugg's speaking tube has a toilet plunger for a mouth/earpiece (a tub faucet shower adapter made do for Mr. Flanagan's end of the apparatus, apparently!) What fun to see this again!!

When I was a little I loved Ranger Hal woke up every morning just to watch him. I always wanted to be on his show but, it was the 60's & in the south we were not allowed. But he would come to the supermarkets in our neighborhood & all the kids would talk with him & shake his hand. Once my parents took me to see him at the supermarket, I was excited, but afraid also, I did'nt understand why he did not look the same as he looked on tv!! (black n' white) lol!!! He was nice to us!!

This excerpt was culled from the half-hour (less commercial breaks) special program that aired in 1985, just before Metromedia was sold to create the fledgling Fox Network. The program (originally recorded to VHS tape from an over-the-air broadcast) can be purchased on DVD from Bruce Simon's Kinevideo online store. The same DVD contains a historical retrospective of WBAL-TV, and similar DVDs are available for retrospectives by dozens of TV stations around the US.

Although unconfirmed, a retired Giant Food exec believes this is store #35 on Route 7. The Giant was built at one end of the shopping center and a Safeway at the other. Izzy Cohen wanted to open the week BEFORE Safeway, so everyone worked around the clock, electricians and all, (triple time paychecks). They took the last load of trash out of the store at noon. Pick Temple arrived at 1PM for the opening. The construction company owner gave Izzy a new car after the project was complete.

In 2009, I interviewed Bill Gormly on Fairfax Cable's "Out of the Past" program and I'm pleased to say he hasn't lost his fine sense of humor. You can see Bill's two part interview via the Vimeo.com site. Go to that site and type-in "Bill Gormly" in the Search box. (Or look for the direct links to that same interview in the description for this KZbin video.)

I was on Pick Temple & we appreciated the bag of groceries we received from Giant Food on the Show. I was picked from the crowd to shoot at the snake. I nailed it but Pick said I missed. Never trusted him again. I was watching Ranger Hal in Cincinnati when he made the famous statement (when he thought the cameras were off), "There, that ought to hold the little bastards".That was the end of that. I thought the show came out of Cincinnati.
