I am 58 and have yet to catch my 1st bass on any type of jig. Caught my 1st on a hollow body frog this summer tho. Need that jig bass before yr is up 😉We have to look at what we are actually fishing and for me, I get bored worm fishing lol. I power fish alot. So a different mindset is needed.

Bitsy bugs should be in EVERY smallmouth bass fisherman's arsenal. Try fishing one with a TUBE as the trailer in the river for smallmouth! THIS ABSOLUTELY MURDERS. I like to use a black and blue, or green pumpkin jig paired with a smoke/purple fleck bitsy tube, bps tender tube, or dry creek outfitters 3 ½" creek tube. My theory is it looks like a molting crayfish, which smallies absolutely CANNOT resist.

I use pumpkin color braided 50 lb line, Will that scare fish away, The water is super clear in Michigan You can easily see 7 to 10 ft under the water.

Tie on an arkie, fish it for 100’s of hours and nothing else. Just keep throwing it. When you’re tired of getting skunked, fish it a little longer. It is my absolute go to now.

Tyler good tips. I would add a trailer hook to my Buzz Bait 90% time. You will miss a lot less of those short biters and not have to reach for that backup lure as often in my own personal experience. I do the same thing with my spinnerbait fishing running a trailer hook most of the time, unless I am getting hung up too much.

I do that note having a backup bait. I have an a worm a lizard or a shad shape if they miss my moving bait I come right back at them and just let it set still or move very little and wham they got what they killed. And a tube always works in that too.

Second jig video saying if you want to learn, don’t bring other options, just bring the jig. Funny cause I started doing that yesterday prior to hearing that tip from anyone. Glad to know I’m on the right track because I’m not stopping until I learn that bait once and for all Thanks for always posting such straight forward videos. I get a lot out of them for sure!

Easy for any beginner looking to get a casting rod setup get a 7ft medium heavy fast action with a baitcasting reel that is the 7.1.1 or any in the 7 gear ratio spooled with 12-15lb mono, and a spinning rod that's a 7ft medium fast with a 3000 for 10lb mono to start and when you have gotten how to use both setups for about 6 months roughly and then you can start trying to use braided line. Braid for spinning setup switch to 10-15lb braid and a leader of mono or fluoro, baitcasting/casting setup then switch to 30lb braid then to use a leader from 12-20lb depending on technique and length of the rod that is what I found to be best. Brand does not matter to start.

Hello, thanks for the wonderful video and excellent explanation. I have a question, I own the type of action, the type of action, the Modrite Fast, does this type of action work on the jerrying, bytes, or is it not suitable for this lure?

This is the exact video I needed. I literally know people who destroy with the jig and I just can't get bit on it. Everything about what I do with it on the retrieve seems like it should get bit but it just doesn't. Thanks!

When I was taught to fish it was 70% finesse. So when I tried a jig it was a bit weird to me. I started with a half ounce flat top jig from buckeye flipping brush pre spawn. I eventually figured out the flat top was a horrible option for brush but man did it work. I lost so many jigs but I caught so so many huge bass that spring. Needless to say I was addicted. It made it more difficult for me to use finesse jigs. I still catch myself wanting to use full skirts, bigger trailers even though I know I need to be throwing a finesse jig.

The best advice on jig fishing- buy a dozen bitsy jigs in all colors. Fish them slow, fast or in between. The fish catchingest jig I’ve ever used, bar none. Go get em, go throw em, start catching em.

Great info! I fish most of those baits and I LOVE TOP WATER FISHING!!! I learned to topwater fish for bass in the early 1960s. Primarily the devilhorse! It's perfect shape and size, and cadence produces water sounds bass can't refuse. But I'd use a carrot if I didn't have the real thing! I fish for bluegills on top water too: flyrod and poppers!!! I could write a book on fishing the devilhorse. There's fishing and then There's TOPWATER FISHING!!!

Wake baits, hula poppers, prop baits, jitterbug, floating worms, weedless spoons, rubber frogs... seems like there are more top water lures to try. Does anyone else think a choppo is just the newest version of a prop bait?

Great video, as always. The Choppo seems to break all the rules of bass fishing. Seems to catch bass on every outing when other lures don't work. Have you used the new Hellrazor? I caught a few bass two weeks ago on it. A demo video on the popper techniques would be nice

My medium heavy rod is highly adaptable. If the lure is too big or heavy it becomes a slow action and if the lure is tiny and light It becomes a monster. It can also expand and retract!!!
