Although we often think about big worms in the summer, big worms also can catch big bass during the spring, lets talk about them!

One of the best ways to catch bass is with a big worm. However, during the spring time there are a few things that I like to do with my big worms. One of the biggest things I like to do is make sure I am setting this worm up for success. I don't want to put a hook super far down in the worm and I do not like to peg my weight.
There is also a big difference in Curly tail worms vs straight tail worms and when I like to use them!

Straight black. Catches big ones. I’ve seen it multiple times where I’ll be using green pumpkin and catching just keeper bass. Then I’ll switch to straight black and the quality goes up. If there is a such thing as a big fish color it’s straight black.

I caught 4 today on a magnum speed worm. I missed a couple at first but then slowed down the hook set and had success. It sometimes takes them a few seconds to get that big worm and hook all the way in their mouth.

I fish choke canyon quite a bit. My hot color for the big worm has definitely been junebug. Plum has also worked pretty good. I'll definitely have to try straight black on the more muddy/cloudy days though. Great tips!

Everyone who suggests a type of rod length for specific styles of fishing are so goofy. I've finished every style of lure on a 7' - 7'3 rod Medium heavy, fast action and it works totally fine. You gain a tiny percentage of efficiency by changing up your rod length/power. The only exception to this is using a heavy power rod if you're fishing for northern/musky.

Maybe we’re doing something wrong up here in western NY…but not a single person I know has ever caught a bass on a plastic worm. Senko? Yes! Trick type worms, not at all! Everyone I fish with has completely stopped using them, myself included. No bites, no fish, ever on a worm…🤷‍♂️

I like the smallest bait the fish will reliably hit. Smaller baits attract crappie and bluegills. Bass pay attention to the smaller fish jumping baits. The hungry bass wades right into that crew and takes the bait every time.
