Just did this yesterday, all four corners. Rears were easy. Using this method, just beware of pulling your CV joints out a little when hammering down on the hub and wriggling out your strut. I found the "bear hug" you mentioned was necessary because the CV joint popped out a little, but i was able to get it back in. If you see a CV joint boot which looks like it is "stretching", you probably pulled it out and need to hug it back in. If I had it to do over again, I'd just unstake the axle nut, remove the nut, and let the axle slide more freely. Other than that, great vid. I also used FCS, came fully assembled and are a direct replacement...no adjustments needed. Thanks again!

I think next time I’ll remove more stuff. I did have to muscle out the lower control arm to line up. My way is kinda faster but harder to do. And if your not careful you can mess up the threads on the control arm. But other than that it was ok. Now if you go with aftermarket coil overs it’ll be a piece of cake, in which I wish I did lol.

I had a 1980 Toyota Pickup for a couple years (2015-2018). The ac system was an original R12 unit. It was not working when I got it (no refrigerant in the system). The few things I did was replacing the o-rings on the fittings that had them, buy the R134 adapters and installed it on the ac compressor, and I also replaced the drier. I rented an ac gauge and a vacuum pump from AutoZone. I used that to pull a vacuum on the system to see if there were any leaks. Everything checked out fine. I kept in mind that this ac system may have residual R12, so I ended up buying the small can of R134 ester oil charge. I used the whole can and then I filled the rest of the system with R134 until the pressure in the system was in range. It ran cold for a couple years until one of the metal lines on the condenser decided to crack.
@luckycarguy
@luckycarguy 10 ай бұрын
Same. Previous owner swapped the fittings to the r134 , the fittings were leaking everything else seemed to be ok. I know he didn’t do it the right way which I still need to do that lol,

@@luckycarguy Yeah, I found the r134 adapters would do that. I ended up going to Home Depot and bought the yellow teflon tape meant for gas fittings and wrapped those on the threads before putting on the adapters.

Really nice work man, thanks for documenting all your projects. I've got a 79 with the 20R and done a lot of the same work you've made videos about. I haven't had the overheating issues, but I'm in rural western WA and rarely do speeds above 50 mph. You might consider getting a weber 32/36 to help with the fuel economy. I know you probably can't desmog in CA, but after I desmogged and installed the weber it felt like a new truck. I get around 25 mpg. Maybe a new, more efficient radiator would help with the heat? I gotta do the heater core next, not looking forward to it haha.
