I use JMCO as a provisional CO for top-down socks that I put a permanent cuff in. I have found when doing this without the beginning slip knot, that when I am joining my turned cuff to begin the body of the sock, I somehow lose a stitch from the provisional CO. I have to use the slip knot.

Thank you, this is a great thing to know. However - note to others, it might be more accessible if you already know the standard Judy's magic cast on.

If seeing it in slow motion would help, you can change the playback speed. Look at the bottom right edge of the screen. Just to the right of the CC (closed caption) icon there's an icon that looks like a round gear. That's for settings. Click on the gear. When the new little window pops open, click on the words PLAYBACK SPEED. Choose the speed you want--up is slower, down is faster. Click on your choice. (OR, if you want a more specific speed, click on CUSTOM SPEED and slide the slider left or right.) Then click on the video again to start watching.

Very clever. The place where I could really use this is thumb gussets on mittens.

How would you adjust this if casting on to 4 DPNs (and using a 5th DPN to knit with), say 4 stitches cast on to each DPN? Do I just have to take care to avoid ladders when I move to the next needle?
@DeviousKnitter
@DeviousKnitter 7 ай бұрын
I suggest casting on to just the two needles and moving stitches onto additional needles as you knit the first or second rounds.

Great tutorial, But Idon't know how to count them. I need to cast on 12 stitches. Do I count the stitches on both needles?
@avrilbritten9989

I’m sure you already got an answer but it would be 6 on each needle :)
@DeviousKnitter

Yes, if you need 12 stitches total, you would want to have 6 stitches on each needle.

Thank you for an excellent tutorial! It was so difficult following other videos demonstrated in Continental style. Trying to convert it to my English style made it so difficult, I had to do it over several times to finally make it work properly for me. If I'd followed you in the beginning it wouldn't have been such a struggle. Saving your link in my computer file, and subscribing!

When using the crochet hook does it matter if you pick up as if to knit or as if to purl?

One way will create a knit stitch in the row below, while the other creates a purl stitch in the row below.

Hi. I am finding this really difficult even though i am an experienced knitter! The part i am finding difficult is using the yarn. am I using the tail of the yarn to cast on or the yarn from the ball of wool or both? I can't seem to get the yarn in the right places.
@DeviousKnitter
