World's only institute which trains Army, Navy and Air force cadets together. Mode of selection: UPSC NDA & NA Exams conducted twice a year. Around 6,00,000 candidates appear for the exam to become officers. Only 10,000 clears the exam. 12th standard pursuing or completed boys and girls can appear for the NDA exam. Age limit: 16.5 years to 19.5 years. Even 1st year college students can appear for the entrance exam. After exam candidates called for Services Selection Board or SSB Five days interview. This is world's toughest selection process to make any normal citizens to become an officer. Screening test Documentation TAT - thematic a perception test WAT - Word Association test SRT - Situation Reaction Test Group Task Individual Task Group Discussion on Any topics Snake Race - To check the coordination among platoon or team during any activity. Literally the testing officer checks your physical strength, endurance and buddy thought perception or how much do you take care of your buddy soldier. This also test the eligibility or capacity of cadet whether they will be in position to lift the wait of buddy soldier if they get injured in war. Group Testing Officer Task - psychological test Last day in interview is Board Interview led by senior military officers who judge your officer like qualities. Once cleared or recommended by the board. Selected candidates undergo medical checkup. Eye Test Respiratory system Body Mass Index Earing Capability Bone Check Hand Shapes Check Palm check is done to test the cadets palm doesn't get sweat often. If the palm gets sweat he will not be able to hold the weapon. During selection some cadets apply muds in inner palms to dry the hand sweating. Ear, Nose and Throat or ENT Test- to diagnose any siness issue. Soldiers has to run upto 40 kilometres during cross country. Breathing related problems. They should come under Shape I medical category to get into final merit list. Only 300 cadets make it mentally and physically fit to join national defence academy out 6 lacs candidates. Cadets divided as per choice of Arms Army - 175 Air Force - 80 Navy - 35 Those who failed in fighter pilot test during SSB, Those candidates will be permanently rejected for any future Air force fighter pilot selection. But other then fighter pilot they can apply. National Defence Academy trains cadet for 3 years. They get degree and military training. Later 1 year pre commissioned training at Indian military academy Indian Naval academy Air force academy It takes 4 to 5 years for 12th standard candidates to become officers. Few most important people who attended Service Selection Board and could not make it but were more successful in their respective careers. Dr APJ ABDUL KALAM - The president of India attended Air force fighter pilot course. He was 9th rank in the merit list but unfortunately Indian Air force required only 8 pilot cadets. He missed the chance by 1 rank. Amitabh Bachchan Shahrukh Khan Rahul Dravid Are some of the prominent personalities who attended SSB interview in their lifetime. Once you become an officer you will get permanent commission to serve the nation for upto 40 years or 60 years of Age limit. Best wishes 🎉
