I've read a lot of results of deer collared with GPS studies. It's clear in those results that moon phases and moon under foot and overhead had no effect on deer movement. I've been fortunate to be able to hunt all most every day of the archery season for over the past 20 years, and I hunt in 5 different states. For many years I compared the moon under foot and overhead to deer movement I experience, and I found no influence one way or the other. But what I have noticed is weather has more effect on deer movement than anything else does. Many of the well-known hunters who do believe in some type of moon influence have also said weather trumps everything. I also believe hunting pressure, lack of scent control, and noise can influence deer movement way more than the moon can.
@HuntDetail
@HuntDetail 6 күн бұрын
I dont necessarily disagree. To be clear, I’m not suggesting that anyone use the moon to hunt. This is simply a guide for those that do. That said, the studies that I’ve examined male deer during the rut have such a small number of deer…that’s I don’t think one can draw conclusions. Also, they seem to focus on moon phase…not overhead and underfoot…because they don’t seem to understand the concept. Thanks for the feedback and support. Best of luck this season!

So Mark says x-amount of days before N/M in October, i have set out last 2yrs, do to neck issues and surgery, i put in for last week of October on reason being last year bucks were moving in the day light. I can't do mornings hunting until 9/9:30 . So what do you and or Mark suggest changing vacation to before October full moon or move it to November before full moon?
@HuntDetail
@HuntDetail 13 күн бұрын
Ehhh…that’s a good question. Honestly, if I have vacation…I’m taking it when I feel most confident that the weather is going to cooperate more than anything…and I think Mark would say the same thing. I believe moon is part of the equation but for me…would not supersede the moon. I think that the Nov. full moon is Nov. 13th. The week leading up to that date is likely a banger. I think I’d personally prefer those dates over October.

Half a climber for twice the cost? What the hell are these scam artists thinking?
@HuntDetail

Well, it’s a smaller platform to fit into a pack instead of a much larger…standard climber platform. Personally, I would prefer a custom saddle climber platform over buying a standard climber. Also, there are a lot of hunters who’ve never owned a standard climber…so this would be their first of this style. Anyways, thanks for your feedback.Best of luck this season!

My current cellular trail camera got stolen (bushnell cellucore). I loved the onX hunt app, but (my camera at least) has no gps tracking. Now I am considering who has the most anti theft features & leaning a bit towards Spartan Golive 2. They know what they doing with the security features & the internal battery. Data seems expensive so I think I need to look at going to a carrier myself. But the spypoint flex seems to have great image quality & priced better so I'm not sure yet.

I think if you use the actual ratio of comparison of two number and divide the cutting surface number by the penetration, then multiply by 100 you could use you data to equate the expected momentum loss during penetration of your test medium. Here are the numbers I came up with: Dead meat: 16% Whitetail special: 13.6% Sevr 2.0: 9.18% Sevr 1.75: 6.6% Rage Hypo: 10.4% Mega Meat: 17% I’m actually going to figure a way to put this into my penetration calculator I’ve been working on. Thanks for the idea. Great work on the video.

The problem im having off the bat is youre basing a lot of the cutting edge versus the actual wound channel size. For example, if an expandable is using two inch and a half blades, thats not making a 3 inch cut because the geometry of those swept back blades means the wound channel has to be smaller. Thats why nc hypodermic rage broadheads are only advertised as 2 inch cuts. Thats the actual cut diameter despite the total amlunt of exposed edge being more than 2 inches.
@HuntDetail
@HuntDetail 27 күн бұрын
I understand. For me it’s a way to objectively metric these heads. I believe that my calculation illustrates which head is marginally better than another because on the surface…they all seem pretty good but the metric can’t just be penetration. In a more recent video, I compare the Beast to the Sevr. Both are advertised as having 2 inch blades. The calculation I use there also includes the inches from tip to tip…this accounts for the degree with which the blades sweep back. You can find it below. All that said, I appreciate your feedback and support. Best of luck this season! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJbTpp15armrfMUsi=zl8p_-i-4_W4khc0

Windy is an awesome app. It had so many features, no ads despite it being free, and so customizable I needed to set up an account to store my settings. Its also cool that it stores the settings on a desktop if you log into the Windy website. It could use a little fine tuning in its accuracy but if they get that improved its an awesome app. It just takes a little bit of a learning curve because the forecast tile has so much information but not much labeled on the daily forecast. As for Wunderground, I used to love this app but IBM just doesn’t seem to have any interest in supporting it much. Its gone several years with no change or additional new features and all updated were reserved for its sister app TWC. Very disappointed with Wunderground as of late.

Your paper analysis provided low scores for some of the most comfortable saddles I've owned and used. That's why it's nice if people can go to shows or stores and try saddles out. It's hard to get a "feel" for a saddle when just reading about it. I hope you're able to find a new saddle that fits your needs. *The Hunt Arsenal Cloud is like hunting out of a hammock. Although I don't love the web-based bridge, its all-day comfort is hard to beat. *The Overwatch Outdoors Transformer is like a favorite pair of jeans that just fits right every time. Where other saddles require multiple adjustments to dial in comfort, the Transformer automatically takes care of it with the auto-sliding webbing and D-loops. *The Timber Ninja Black Belt Ultimate is everything you want in a saddle but aren't willing to pay for. The inside of the saddle is padded and I don't get any hip pinch. It is a saddle I reach for during all-day rut hunts, and I do mean all-day in one tree without getting down. *I owned and sold the CGM Cobra. It's a good saddle and one of the best companies on your list, but I generally find two-panel saddles more comfortable than one-panel saddles.

@@NathanFryMicronesia / TheBudgetSportsman you received a Lean Ascent for free to do a review. You rushed a test, claimed an issue and it took you 2 months to send us the information so we could make a proper safety assessment and take any potential action in case of a "safety issue". Now that we finally have the information: you stepped on the lean ascent without your tether on, didn't secure your feet in the foot loops, and now claim we have a safety issue because the platform "fell out from under you". Not to mention you never read the instructions. If you do that and put all the pressure to the bottom of the tree, especially with a steep angle upward, any climber or climbing platform will "fall from under you". It happened to me with both of my climbers and we were using linemans rope for safety at the time. EVERYONE: please read and follow equipment instructions: make sure you are attached to the tree before stepping on any climbing equipment, and when designed, secure your feet in the equipment immediately, which will also ensure you have the right position on the equipment.

@HuntDetail , I looked at the cheatsheet but considereing some of the updates (including putting HuntStand at the very bottom of the list) .... .... in your opinion who has the better private property line overlay...and interface to see it quickly then get it out of the way (Gaia, or Huntwise....or one of the others?) .....I know Gaia comes up short as a hunting app....but in mybcase that is OK....private property is overlay is becoming my only feature for consideration other than having the actual State by State hunting units. Thanks for taking on the task of comparing all of these .....I really did try to sort this detail out for myself before asking but it is weirdly difficult to do so .....maybe property lines are better marked in the places most folks hunt.... but here in Colorado people get really grumpy/intense about it ....maybe owing to how much development is ongoing and failure to upkeep markers and/or fence lines.

@@HuntDetail I'm starting to get that impression that you really do need two apps for mission critical stuff like property line compliance ...especially if an animal scampers a bit farther than expected with an arrow in him/her ... not worth taking chances. As a side note to anyone else coming across this, if you just need a free app that claims 100% coast to coast property records ... the Regrid app will at least show you if you are near a property line ( icon is a green square with one corner rounded off) ... but it has zero active GPS and I have no idea if it is offline functional... even with cached data from e-scouting ahead of time, but it did give me some peace of mind when I was looking at retrieval by road access that had private land occasionally near the road on the east side and fully open forest service property on the west side... not ideal but got me by in a pinch. Two apps seems better than one... a moderately priced option and then maybe something else I can just pay a month for uber-platinum-premium service and turn off when I don't need it. Recognition of that kind of occasional user behavior seems baked into a lot of these subscription plans. They know you don't necessarily need every feature every month of the year... and as a bloke on a budget I can appreciate that they appreciate that. Thanks @HuntDetail

I’m glad to see someone on KZbin chiming in about this category. My preference is an srt preset loop. Doesn’t work for going in blind to new places. So, I myself just ordered the broadside mark 2 recently. (Loved the mark1 (didn’t buy it) but it was missing the features they put in mark2). I asked myself what I needed, looked through every elevated deer kill I’ve had over the last 5 years, and In over half those trees I could have used that very easily. The saddle/rap line, plus some knowledge/practice/ and a multi step aider, and my thought is I can use it to one-stick with a platform if necessary (hate one sticking but It’s useable if needed). use it like a climber but bypass limbs due to the saddle, or use it to climb a couple different ways in the same run up to get where I need to be if necessary. The main thing I like is how small dia it goes, and with their large tree cord how large a tree it can go on. Very vast range. I think people aren’t seeing these as a multi-use climbing method, only seeing it as a climber, which with a treestand safety harness they’re right it’s limiting. With a saddle it’s not nearly as limiting, and it’s easier/more efficient than one-sticking by far for me. Yet it could be used to one stick also, and then you take the cable off and you have a nice giant platform to run for srt presets. I feel it’s a good buy due to the versatility when you add some climbing knowledge and aiders to the mix.

@@HuntDetail Moving parts on a broadhead introduce variables into the equation. They suck energy from the arrow system just to deploy and God forbid you hit at a steep angle and one blade opens before the other. Blood trails are unpredictable no matter what head you shoot, especially with poor penetration. In 39 seasons of hunting whitetails my goal has never been to leave a blood trail, it has been and always will be an ethical harvest. That should be everyone's goal but good marketing wins out most often unfortunately. One of the best blood trails I have ever seen was a lone lung/iver shot by a buddy of mine with a small fixed 3-blade head. Keep in mind there are TV hunters and influencers that don't actually hunt with the equipment you see them advertise. I could mention a huge name in the industry who (after a few beers) told guys in hunting camp the broadheads he shoots aren't great, but "they cut me a six-figure check every year."
