A man does not need his parents consent or permission to marry, but it is usually better to have their approval and blessing. From what you told me their reasoning is not sound.

I am quiet disappointed with you. The lecture/khutba you delivered 10/15 years ago on 'democracy', was a timepiece. That delivery was enough to dismantle all modern-day, mambo-jambos, and suit-coat-tie and all the fasad that comes with it. With that momentum and trajectory, along with Shorpshire, by now you should have been sitting with B_dens and Xi_pings and discussing and bargaining Muslim sides.
