Being an Aussie these guys were iconic. Euronymous famously wore the shirt of the album you're holding here. Debate still rages whether they were black, thrash or death metal. Unique and way ahead of their time.

I've been following INVOCATION since they started. I know the band, they are great. I wen't to highschool with all of them (the drummer is my brother heheh). Remember those old days when we dreamed about bands, Sepultura, Kreator, Death, Metallica, and now they made it. So proud of these kids. Totally recommended.

Saw them yesterday in Stockholm (3rd time) and it was such a blast! I don´t think they will add a bass player, tho. They go with 2 guitars live and they sound amazing! Yes this is true death metal - every note, the feeling of every riff and how they're arranged, the tempo, the dramatic changes in speed evoke feelings of foreboding, of despair, of anger and of harrowing morbid extremity. Nothing groovy, no chugging in a high impact way and so creating an inevitable positive energy (Cannibal Corpse' often downfall in my opinion - it gets TOO catchy) - this is the opposite. Like Funrebrarum, very dark haunting death metal. Pillard sick or not possesses arguably the most powerful voice in DM, onward to Golgotha anyone? thanks for posting, great stuff from true underground titans.

I bought Seven Churches sometime in 88', I thought it was a 1st wave black metal album at the time, but the definition of "Black Metal" back then from my neck of woods was anything with Satanic lyrics and imagery. Now days I would say that I agree with you as it to be a dark thrash album. When I first heard Morbid Angel... I was afraid to go outside when after dark for a week.. haha
