There are two races every year that I need to see and know about- The TT And The world Jet Boat

I can see the drivers spend a lot of time pushing the inside of the wheel down when turning. This is the worst way to steer a racing car, and so it must be an equally bad way to steer a jetboat. In order to make the smoothest possible turns, you need to push your outside hand UP, and only stabilise the wheel with the inside hand. This pushes your shoulders back into the seat and stabilises you as well. And the correct body position is that when your hands are at 9 and 3 on the wheel, you should have a 90-degree bend in your elbows. Any other position is very tiring on a driver - no matter what they're driving. BTW, hands at 10 and 2 is definitely old-school, and definitely not good.

Apparently, jetboat drivers are stupid, and don't know how hands and steering wheels are supposed to work together. Whatever the adjuster is on the front the the wheel (Trim?) - that is monumentally moronic - it must be fitted to the back of the wheel, so that the thumb can ALWAYS remain in contact with the wheel surface, and the hand fully grasping the wheel. Imagine if car makers installed gear paddles on the front of the steering wheel instead of behind it. Yeah - this is just as stupid as that idea.

Its not about appreciating the scenery, more the machinery. Its not about the day, more the play. Its not about being last, more the fast. Its more about a landing and some planning.

When I was younger I watched a video of a powerboat flipping as a cameraman leaps out of its way.. and I was thinking... if they had cunnards like the Russian concord they could teeter on flying and really go... 30 odd years later...

So do they have prior knowledge of what route to take? Does the navigator have notes? Or is it all by-the-seat-of-their-pants and hope not drive into blind inlets?
@sirgadgetman
@sirgadgetman 3 жыл бұрын
They do pre-run the rivers a few days prior to racing, but the rivers in New Zealand change course all the time, it can be different from hour to hour. Some of the prior running helps, but a lot is just read it by the seat of your pants as they race.

Thanks for posting again. I've been re-watching your old ones for four years. As a Yank I naturally love V8's burning any type of fuel, but I'll watch every second of the turbine boats you're willing to post. The performance of them is pretty mind blowing. Thanks again for posting.
