I wasn't impressed with few other GM releases, but if you say it is good enough at $60, I'll definitely give it a chance for a 12 euro (in my local shop).

I think the thorntons shops have all shut now post 2021. The chocolate still exists but not in standalone shops.

Odd... But I filled the empty glass with water, and it smelled SO strongly of butter chicken. So weird.

What a way to finish the calendar! Great dram with sweet hickory, slightly earthy with cherry and maybe marzipan on the nose. On the palate it was just everything good. Thanks Adam, what a great month!

Woah! 1954! What a treat for Christmas eve! I've learned that armagnac is delicious. The nose had prune, raisin, oak and I found a hint of toffee/caramel. The palate brought spice, canned cherries, plum, toasted marshmallow and maybe tobacco?
@philreaume13429 күн бұрын
I do like a Nikka! The nose had spice, malt and vanilla. The balance on the palate was very nice with all the notes found when nosing it.

Great grain whisky. On the nose vanilla, melon and that bourbon cask influence. It was lite, sweet and vanilla on the palate with gin notes

Benromach is a great distillery. On the nose I found malt, honeycomb, maybe apricot and light smoke. Anyone who reads my notes must think I'm crazy. On the nose I found lots of raisin/prune and a nice long finish.

As already pointed out, this was great! What an interesting dram. On the nose it was peaty, earthy and zesty. On the palate it tasted like salty air, the sea and deliciousness.
@philreaume13429 күн бұрын
On the nose I thought it had a higher ABV but 55.5% isn't as high as I thought. I also got smoke which is very generic I understand. On the palate it was smooth with a light lingering smoke which I liked on the finish. Oddly enough, and call me crazy, but I found fruit like a nectarine at times too...sorry

This one was absolutely outstanding! Smoke and sweet goodness! Great way to finish! Thanks Adam! This was a special one!

That was utterly amazing. Thanks for including it. It really was the cherry on top of an amazing advent calendar 🥃🎄🎅

After my first sip I was convinced I had to get a bottle of this. One glance and the very old style of the SMWS label and I knew it was only a dream 😢 Thanks for sharing. I think I will now be on the lookout for older single grain whisky!

I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed grain whiskies until now. This one was a beauty! Memories of SMWS candy floss on a pine twig! The sweetness was delightful! Glad you shared this one but sad it’s long gone.

My favourite whisky ever was a 34 year old Cambus from SMWS. It was for my 30th birthday. It was a perfect blend of subtle and strong flavours, but able to taste both easily.
@Becca25331Ай бұрын
Maltesers have a more malt powder, and is more tightly compacted. They're sold at grocery stores. Whoppers are available at dollar stores, so are cheaper and easier to buy. You may not like them much because they tend to crumble easier, and the chocolate ratio is smaller.

All the very merriest of christmasses to you! Such a beautiful dram, dark fruits, leather, old bookshelves... This makes me think of The Box of Delights... Old, British Christmas, in the inter-war years, with snow, magic, and a Punch and Judy man
@chantelle67899Ай бұрын
Love the analogy Adam! This one was good but not as good as the Strath exclusive. The exclusive has bigger sherry notes where this was more malt than anything else. Still a delightful treat!

Merriest of Christmases Adam! 🥃🎄🥃Thank you so much for putting together the most awesome Advent Calendar ever. What an ending. All the best for 2025...looking forward to the Outturns, Whisky Folk and Companions tastings in the next year.

Tasty! Sadly doesn’t hold a candle to the legendary pour of SMWS G12.1 you shared with me earlier this year. (11yr Nikka Grain)

Truely special. Had the pleasure of sharing with both my parents who LOVE Armagnac, and I believe it was the first time either had tried something from before they were born. A wonderful memory. We compared it to the SMWS 1990 bottle from last November and frankly this blows that out of the water, despite the lower ABV. Merry Christmas Eve and thank you for sharing!!

Very floral on the nose, and floral on the tongue as well, but with a real dose of shochu funk! Very nice indeed 👍

I had to get my mom to have a sip of something which grew when she was 5 years old! So raisiny with vanilla and creamy pudding notes... That's what we call pudding here, not a Christmas Pud ❤ To your "old wall" I would say this conjures memories of the dustiness, old wood and stale air of the enclosed attic spaces behind the walls of our upstairs, a house built in the 1930s which has been through a house fire.

Funny enough I'm of the same vintage as this one and turned 36 yesterday. I had didn't have this one but I did have 4 samples of G&M 1988's as a birthday flight. Highland Park 32, Bladnoch 33(KWM), Linkwwod 32, and Tomatin 32. Sounds like a really cool SMWS Strathclyde! Cheers 🥃

I really enjoyed this, Adam! Lovely, velvety feel on the tongue. All very favourable notes and flavours coming from the sweeter grains. This is a very approachable whisky, and I need to pay Nikka more attention. I attended a Master Class a couple of years ago at Whisky Fest, and a tasting last year here with their North American and International Rep's. They had brought a mixologist from Owl&Rooster, and the spirits plus cocktails were exceptional. I keep forgetting how complete their game is. Thanks for this one!
@dukesnider8752Ай бұрын
OMG how have I missed this one? Granted, I would not have been drawn to the grain whisky label. A nice light dram.
@dukesnider8752Ай бұрын
Awesome sort of birthday dram Adam! Sweet oatmeal bar drenched with chocolate on the nose. Fruit cake (is that a Christmas influence) on the tongue. Concur that age is not an indicator of quality. I've been put off by some "old" drams.

Love love loved this bottle. Doesn’t quite beat the single cask 305 and 306 (and maybe that ~20yr Canada Cask) that were shared in the Stath’s Benromach tasting earlier this year, but stood out massively for me. I’ll throw a question out for anyone who sees this- How does the current cask strength batch strength compare to this? Because if they’re similar to this then I see purchases in my future

Wonderful single grain representation. Very Christmas baking, buttery caramel notes, and taste. Delicious. Loch Lomond is my fav, so far...

Good call! I don’t think of Loch Lomond as a grain distillery but their grain is excellent. I’m also a fan of Girvan, Invergordon, and North British

Not sure if it was just the colour, but I was getting a hint of candied cherries in this one's fruitcake-ness along with dark molasses and allspice

I would not have guessed this was local but it was a nice surprise! On the nose I found smoked meat like cold smoked salmon. I did not guess Ardbeg! On the palate I got....BBQ asparagus...anyone else? Probably not. It was a nice dram.
@philreaume134Ай бұрын
This was a nice treat and new to me! I am more of a fan of HP in the SMWS line vs their official releases in my experience so far but this was great. On the nose I found earthy smoke, meat and light BBQ. On the palate more peaty than on the nose with what I found to be a peach sweetness which. Odd I know.
@philreaume134Ай бұрын
I have had this before and am a fan! On the nose it was sweet with sherry raisin notes. On the palate it was even more raisin like, with a thickness and sherry notes. Great dram!
@philreaume134Ай бұрын
It had an interesting nose and reminded me of Kyro. On the nose I thought rye but not in the regular expectation. I also got a note of forrest..like juniper or cedar etc. On the palate it was smooth and I thought low ABV with notes of caramel.
@philreaume134Ай бұрын
So so so nice to have a Blackadder. My first time. On the nose, all I got was soot and some sweetness. I liked it!. On the palate I had an odd note of....corn pops. Yes the cereal...

Tough to pick a favourite Benromach but all of the single casks I've tried have been fantastic. It seems like they don't miss.
