KMC is dependent on center for only 500 crores in pathetic. KMC should have adequate fund for these types of low key investments, forget flyovers and bridges or ring roads.

Trams are making a comeback in Europe, Australia. I wrote a letter to the minister of transport to upgrade the trams with modern ac trams. This would increase the aesthetic value of the routes and provide a comfortable, non polluting mode of transport. Also, new signalling has to be installed to give trams priority. However, trams should be restricted to routes where it will have their own islands for at least 50% of the route

Let's be honest. Tram is an inefficient mode of transportation in a city like Kolkata that has 1.5cr population and less road space compared to cities like Delhi and Bangalore. Trams are still operational in Kolkata just because we cannot move past nostalgia. In 2024, metros are a far more efficient mode of transportation and trams are nothing more than a joyride. I always see hardly 10-15 people on a tram at anytime. Now, if we have to have trams, then we need to have dedicated lines for it, and not on the roads. I saw a metro lite kind of a project planned in Newtown, which is possible to some extent or in the Garer Math, Maidan, Victoria Memorial area, where there is space for tram line and traffic not being much of an issue. Let's just accept that trams are a thing of the past, cherish the memories and move on. There is no point forcefully retaining trams just for the nostalgia.

Trams are a very good medium for transport. There is no air pollution, the fare is quite cheap, and it is easy to ride. We need to save the trams, as we know this is the only haritage transport in our city, Kolkata. ❤️
