Not sure why YT pushed this to me today. But my wife has a 2016 XC90 and experienced excess oil consumption as well. FYI Volvo has acknowledged a problem with 2015-2016 XC70, XC90 etc and issued a TSB for new design pistons and rings and has offered extended warranty coverage on this. That tap sounds like the idler pulley failed on the timing chain. Expensive fix. I had to fix this issue on a 2015 Kia Sorento SXL 3.3L V6. Cost 4 grand to have the timing chain assembly replaced.

2016 Silverado 1500. Mine failed 500 miles from home at 96,000 miles. Thankfully I had a good extended warranty; the warranty covered $4000 of the $6200 cost of installing a GM Reman. Note: if you have this happen in Columbus OH do NOT have it towed to Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet…they replaced the transmission and when I went to pick it up it barely got me home. My local dealer tore into it and ended up replacing a ton of parts, including a NEW torque converter that had a spring sticking out of the side of the housing! Total $hitshow compliments of Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet.

2015 Yukon Denail, bought used, it had hard shifts, developed a shudder after 5 years of ownership and 170K milles. Did the Blue label and filter and 1 tube of shudder stop, if fixed it for about a year. Now the clunkiness and light intermittent shudder is back.

The Volvo guy covered the oil ring problem on early 4 cylinder turbo charged Volvo engines. They finally fixed the problem in later years.

What was the cost of that new transmission? Just curious. I've heard $8k?

Thanks for the video. I have the exact same issues. I purchased the oil filter housing from AutoZone that's all aluminum with lifetime warranty. It was just over $300 and comes with filter, bottom seals, intake seals, and fuel rail housing seals. Coolant temp sensor and oil pressure switch not included. Transfer case seal from transmission leaking along with transmission pan and oil pan leaks. Sucks! Your video really helped me narrow down my search.

I think all those turbo's have a crack in the same spot, but it can still be used.

How much does this usually cost to fix

I bought a 2012 Chevy Equinox LS from an auction a month ago and was told they check the engine and transmission on all their vehicles. Gota an oil change 10 days later drove about 1200 miles and during that time the car started cutting off from time to time and did really bad shakes during idling. Found out from my mechanic the oil was completely empty and was told to take it back to jiffy lube because they forgot to put oil in it. Got there and was told there was an oil consumption problem. I just want to know being that it definitely is an engine problem, because that means the pistons are most likely worn< can I take the auction I got it from to court or am I just out $3500

That doesn't make any sense. Changing the oil every 3,000 miles is a scam. The Volvo engines are failing because of factory faults. They are designed with wrong pistons and piston rings, which causes engine failure. You're not driving an F1 car; there's no need to change the oil every 3,000 miles, but you must use good oil and filters, not the cheap ones from Walmart or unknown brands. I drove a 2014 VW Jetta for 8 years, put on 250k miles, and changed the oil every 10k miles without any issues. Same engine, same transmission. I always used Castrol 5w-30 with Bosch oil filters. After 250k miles, the engine was still working perfectly, without any issues. To make it clear, the problem is not the oil change, it's the Volvo engines and their engineering.

I have a 126k '15 Acadia with the same issue. On top of that, this vehicle consumes more oil than speedy dry! The struts are going on their way out and it sucks gas with a hose rather than a straw. I received a letter from GM telling me that there is a problem with the driver side air bag and that metal fragments could come out in a deployment resulting in harm/death! TEN MONTHS later (luckily no accident) they now have the parts to fix. I've had many GM vehicles since my first 1980 Buick regal back in 1986. I'm now 57 and I'm here to say I'm done with GM products. This company refuses to build and engineer quality vehicles like Honda or Toyota. Sorry for the rant I'm just very disappointed with this American company that I supported all these years.
