I’m moved by the love he has for the horse. I’m relieved that he expresses that the substance of the process is actually in the trimming. I’m impressed to learn how the engineering of the shoe can add the support that helps to compensate for what the hoof has yet to become. Watching the whole things is pretty cool so thanks for putting together this video. NF team is AMAZING

Can u define vertical depth elaborate a lil more plse
@noblefarrieryАй бұрын
@@franciscorobledo7706 Vertical depth can be thought of generally as the distance between the bottom of the coffin bone to the ground. This relates to sole thickness and concavity. Sufficient vertical depth is crucial to the function of the internal stuctures of the hoof and long term soundness. Ideally, the distance between the coffin bone and the ground should be at least two times the thickness of the dorsal wall. This can be confirmed with radiographs!

Okay, so they make the stands go high for worker comfort rather than the horse?? I wondered about that... I wish I had known before I built my stand. There was really no need to make it adjustable. lol
@noblefarriery3 ай бұрын
We always put the horses comfort first, we do also use adjustable stands because it can accommodate horses that can’t have their foot at that height

How do you decide to use this trimming method vs just the hoof knife?
@noblefarriery6 ай бұрын
The main reason for the toeing knife as opposed to the hoof knife is to reduce the amount of torque on my wrist when I have a large amount of sole to exfoliate. When a sole is particularly hard it can also be an easier option. It's fun to use something different to the hoof knife as it is a very ancient tool!

Curious why you didn’t choose to glue composite shoes over metal. It seems like a lot of extra work to make the shoe from steel with welded clips and you don’t minimize concussion as you would with composite.
@noblefarriery7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the good question! There is always more than one way to shoe a horse, and Glue-on composites such as GluShus were discussed as an alternative solution. They would have been a more straightforward option that also avoided using nails, but here is what guided Brandon's thinking with Felix: - our main goals were 1) protection from ground surface interactions 2) decrease breakover fulcrum, and 3) correct hoof pastern axis. - regarding goal 1, steel shoes increased longevity and avoided too much traction with the ground to prevent possible soft tissue injuries
@kearl457 ай бұрын
@@noblefarriery definitely keep the easycare options in mind! I’d love to see a comparison on how the horse goes as well as the ability to shape the shoe and set the correct break over. They are fantastic for horses that hate farrier work either due to nailing or being unable to hold up their legs. It’s incredible how still they will stand for glue compared to steel.
