Yep, I also love music. I am a bit older, 37, and I still buy mp3s and CDs because I enjoy owning and sharing music without boundaries. Also, when I stop paying for streaming I own NOTHING. I only use streaming to discover music every now and then.
@quas3728Ай бұрын
same here. sometimes i use youtube and spotify (pc version, mobile version is crazy without premium) but that's free version and I only use it for discovery. streaming can't replace owning.

There are a million reasons. But is it worth the price? Unlimited music for 10 dollars/month OR one cd for 10-20 dollars? Maybe for someone who has a lot of money to spend it's a great hobby. But don't bash us music lovers who live on a tight budget.
@quas3728 Жыл бұрын
but what if artist took away music from streaming? let's be real, I don't need all music that exist but I need some music that I love. so owning is important to me.

I have 20,506 songs on my pc, and yes I have it backed up as well. I rather own the songs instead of streaming. Heck, I haven't used a streaming site for music yet.

I look at this way: I have converted all my CDs to MP3. I had 500 CDs. I downloaded a lot and i bought a lot. I love to buy, i love to support the artists. I like Tidal as a subscription, they pay the artist that you play a lot of, and they pay good amounts, not pennies, but they are expensive. My collection is 385GB, about 32 thousands tracks. It would take me 210 days of 24 hour listening to hear each song. I like 7digital, but they have a weak selection. I love to buy. I was not able to convert my records and tapes. I gave them away in 1999. I could kill myself for that. I had 300 records, all classics, picture disks. I had about 180 tape cassettes. Anyway, i digress ...i look at this way, When i am old and retired, when i have to watch the penny, i will not have to pay a music subscription. I will have my library that i can listen to forever. I will not need to be on a subscription service to play my tunes. As well, if pay 12.99 a month for 20 years, that is - $3117.6 i have paid to a music subscription service. When i cancel a subscription, i have NOTHING. NADA, memories of when i played tunes, memories of the fun and convenience the music service provided. #k for memories.. If i spend that 3K on my own downloads, i have music i own, in my library. I think music subscription is very useful and handy, and it gives you a avenue to discover new music, but i still purchase my stuff. For me, why pay 3K and end up with nothing. I want to be in my rocking chair on my patio, sippin' my wine, listening to my jams! I want to enjoy my library, that is what i will pay for. I will have my thousands of songs i can play anywhere. My money supported the artist and it did not go into the pockets of the subscriptions services. YES! Lets look at two people, one paid Spotify for 20 years and me next to them that bought my music for 20 years. Mr Spotify cancels the subscription cause it is now 30.00 bucks a month, and now has a pot to piss in. Me, i have 45 thousands songs that are mine and i can pass on when i die. My risk, the format becomes obsolete and i cannot play them. hmmm

But what about buying music electronically like on iTunes for example? You still own the music but you don’t get that experience of having it physically. Is it still worth it? or is this argument only valid for cassettes, vinyl, and CDs?

Also not every music artist has put their entire music catalogue on spotify, so you don't have access to everything ever released in the world. Some bands put none & some put 1 or 2 albums. Some are now taking all their music off it due to the lack of royalty money they get, while spotify rakes in billions off the labor of musicians.

I’ve bought so much vinyl, CDs, and cassettes over the years from when I was a wee lad to where I am now 25 years old. And I have to say I have quite the collection, but I had to stop buying music because of the clutter. I barely re organized everything and I came to the conclusion that I have no room. Should I sell some of my stuff to make room? Sure, that’s what I’m working on rn, but streaming services like Spotify, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and KZbin are so convenient. Heck if I wanted to listen to vinyl quality music somebody for sure uploaded it somewhere on the internet. Lol just have to find it.

I feel that music companies should release music on all the major formats - vinyl, tape and cd. This would ensure that all formats and their associated industries stay alive, and the consumer gets what he/she wants.

1. You can download the songs on Spotify. So you aren’t dependent from any Wifi connection. 2. If your Spotify device gets broken is your library still safe in the cloud. But if your house burns down is your library gone forever. 3. It’s usual for most young unknown artists to only publish their songs online because it’s for them the only affordable way to publish their music. There are cases where an artist earns more from my many Apple Music streams compared to buying the songs on iTunes. Yes: one time buying the song on iTunes means more money then one stream on Apple Music. But Apple Music doesn’t count the streams of music that you already bought once on iTunes. So they would earn less if I would own their songs.

Several albums I have downloaded or even purchased I am unable to listen to certain tracks being omitted. I’m sure this is due to licensing but this sucks because I have paid full album price. Physical copies are always the best, be it cds, vinyl records or even tape.

Unfortunately I live in country very fsr from Americs and my parents dont allow to buy anything with my credit card and they would get upset as I am buying music when I could just listen to it for free...
