Spotify is incredibly popular and nobody seems to be buying music anymore. But is spotify really better than buying? I think that there is still a powerful argument for owning music, even with how far streaming has come as of late.
Update: Aaaand I totally subscribe to spotify, now. Here's why: www.higherlevel...

Ima cd seller myself 2023 and I’m going to support CDs until I did I been buying them since I was young and CDs were really popular at Best Buy, let’s keep physical media alive guys and keep supporting artist. These streaming companies robbing artist money and u never own the music just renting it for losers that listen music on their cheap cell phones 😅

Yes. If you love the artist or band, buying the physical copy of their album alone is enough support for the creators of your favorite music. Also, going to record stores or places that sells CDs and vinyl like Barnes and Noble, and trying to find that one CD or record you’ve been looking for years is like a treasure hunt for me! It’s like once you’ve finally found it, you get this feeling of accomplishment that “yeah! This is the one I’ve been looking for for ages! I’ve finally found it!!” You can never get that feeling from just streaming music on Spotify, it’s just not the same. CD, vinyl, tapes, I collect them all!!

Illegal music downloads is still a thing (come on, admit that you downloaded too). But the best thing about buying music is the thrill of the hunt. Searching each music store for that CD or tape you've been looking for, and then going home and popping it into your stereo system and finally hearing the songs is the best feeling ever. It's the best way to enjoy music (aside from live performances of course)

The biggest reason for me to why I buy CDs: better audio quality. Yes, streaming is easy, convenient and cheap, but the quality, even if you are a streaming Premium user, will always be a lower than a CD.

It's the same with streaming music as it is with renting an apartment. As long as you pay for the music/apartment per month, you own it. But as soon as you stop paying, the music/apartment is gone. Like if you buy music for $100 you own that forever. But if you pay like $5 monthly you do own all the songs in the world for that time. Lets say you pay those $5 for 10 years every month. Then you have spend $600 but in the end as you stop paying you have nothing left. The songs you bought however will stay as long as you live... Also I don't quite understand how some people are flexing when they say Oh I have Spofify Premium I can listen to all the music in the world. Like if that would be a symbol for being rich. Thats rather a symbol for being poor, because you can't afford to pay like $1 or $2 for a song you want to listen to. It's so stupid how music streams have become so popular. Like on the one hand you pay $1000 for your brand new IPhone X and $5000 for your brand new Rolex Watch and another $1000 for your Balenciaga Outfit and at the same time you walk around flexing with Spotify Premium like if that would mean something...people are crazy...

1. You can download the songs on Spotify. So you aren’t dependent from any Wifi connection. 2. If your Spotify device gets broken is your library still safe in the cloud. But if your house burns down is your library gone forever. 3. It’s usual for most young unknown artists to only publish their songs online because it’s for them the only affordable way to publish their music. There are cases where an artist earns more from my many Apple Music streams compared to buying the songs on iTunes. Yes: one time buying the song on iTunes means more money then one stream on Apple Music. But Apple Music doesn’t count the streams of music that you already bought once on iTunes. So they would earn less if I would own their songs.

If you love music, you own it. Genuine music lovers own at least some physical music. I haven't met one yet that doesn't. I met a girl recently who was massively into festivals. I decided to put on some charm and said "Ahh thats really cool 😎......I bet you can't name 10 albums" This girl no longer speaks to me, but she couldn't name 10 albums. And obviously owns no physical music.

It does feel good to hold the paper notes and artwork! Definitely an experience! Especially if it can get signed by the artist or any affiliated producers. Plus if the internet were to ever get to a place where censorship banned songs or albums you like for political, religious, or controversial reasons, they could never take away your physical copy if you hide it really well. That’s why underground music is actually kind of cool. Like some rapper keeping a box of CDs in their closet or their trunk! Only a handful of people are jamming the music and get to be part of the “special circle” of people who have their hands on the real physical copies!

I have a copy of Madvillainy (R.I.P. MF DOOM) on vinyl - it was expensive, but I had to buy it - and it feels so magical to hold with my hands. It also feels great to support your favorite artists in that way. The next physical copy of an album I wanna purchase is "Loveless" by "My Bloody Valentine"; an excellent and amazing album.

Buying music makes sense since most people listen to the same stuff the majority of the time. Streaming makes sense to discover new music if you have limited memory and if you're with people that have different taste than you. Many times you can share a subscription like a family plan depending on the service you have making the cost less. I find it nice to have to do both as long as the streaming service is free or shared for lower cost. I share Pandora with my family when someone is listening to the service I listen to the stuff that I own and we don't have to sign up for family plan.

Because I'll have to spend $15/month EVERY month for the REST OF MY LIFE in order to have access to decent quality music.. compared to purchasing the full albums of bands that I love and will continue to love for years to come. I would've had to pay about $2,000 in order to stream OK Computer since it came out in 1997.. that's crazy. Or I could listen to it for free with even worse quality. I free stream stuff to explore and buy the stuff I feel is a great work or something I'd want to listen to multiple times in the future. The quality difference isn't even close between CD vs Spotify, or Spotify premium, or iTunes 256kbps. It's not snobbery.. it's just the facts of the matter, and of what my ears hear. 256 vs CD isn't as noticeable on some stereos or stock cars, but I definitely notice with my earbuds and nicer setups. You do you though. For the next 50 years I'll have to spend 9k to listen to music at 256kbps "premium". No thanks. makes no sense.

How will I get the music. Exactly! Cd's cater for major artist with major fan base but streaming is for all at large. Easier to grow, manage, and discover ur fan base. This whole debate had to do with the fans satisfaction what about the artist & their growth. [what's yall take] 👇

This pisses me off so much. I buy from Amazon music and they really make it as difficult as possible. Every time I try to buy a song it keeps directing me to stream the service and I have to click 'no thanks' multiple times. It seems they want to direct everyone to pay to lease music which you never physically own and dies with you and I've got an extensive wide ranging music collection that I've bought in many media again and again. Do you think it will be impossible to do anything but stream in the future?

I don't need and albums when I can just individually download the songs I actually like. To me most albums are pointless unless they have unreleased songs.

I don't understand why this is a debate. There is a place for streaming and physical music. If I really love an album, I'll buy it. If it's something I listen to every once in a while, I stream it.

CD DVD BD it is better to have your own copy this way because you can say you supported the programmer, the music writer, the singer, the band and the movie maker. THE BOTTOM LINE IS YOU OWN A COPY, A COPY YOU CAN KEEP FOREVER AND YOU CAN SAY IT IS YOURS!

Also not every music artist has put their entire music catalogue on spotify, so you don't have access to everything ever released in the world. Some bands put none & some put 1 or 2 albums. Some are now taking all their music off it due to the lack of royalty money they get, while spotify rakes in billions off the labor of musicians.

I think, there is nothing bad about library on hdd in flac format, thousands of albums, copy/paste to sd card. I think, it's good solution between streaming and annoying CDs. I've enjoyed my CDs collection when I were younger. It's fragile, one scratch -> goes to trash. In addition, there are always some limited/deluxe editions with bonus tracks, 20 remixes on 2nd CD, EP's or other rare releases. Omg, if you are into electronic music then how much time/money would be wasted ! No thanks, my friends are: Windows, hdd and sd card.

CDs have great audio quality, but mostly all current tracks are overcompressed and extremely maximized. While such services as Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal etc., are using EBU loudness standard to optimize tracks' volume, which makes lower dynamic range tracks more pleasant to hear, CDs master tracks are too harsh, squashed and dense. CDs are ok, but all their quality in most cases is compromised by CD mastering standards.
