Rita, Sue and Bob Too, written by the gifted but troubled local playwright Andrea Dunbar, is a no-holds-barred comedy-drama about two 15-year-old girls directed by Alan Clarke and was filmed here. If you have yet to see this 1987 hard-hitting comedy-drama, I highly recommend it. Excellent photography that perfectly captures the depressing and hopeless atmosphere.

Spent a year at St Mick's in 1974, transplanted from Thomas Aquinas. Vaguely remember the hall, staircases and having lessons in those classrooms on the top floor.

Yep, got beaten to a pulp from a gang from Seacroft for no reason who followed me thought that underpass in the 90's, they left me to die in the road A64. Someone came out of a house and put me in an ambulance, otherwise I wouldn't be here.

Quote from the effort to change this area: "What's the point of double gazing and central heating if they have no jobs..." Very true as it turned out.

The Parade right at the end there, from Saxton Gardens. I lived there in the 80s, remember in the Off License it was Mrs Ramsay, the bread shop Mrs Lyons and I think it was Brian and Audrey in the sweet/paper shop.

I lived on this estate for 8 years and never had no bother. It looks intimadating but the people where nice enough. Living there was an eye opener I don't think you'll find another estate in england with 12 10 story tower blocks on it lol

There needs to be a new video of this to show what's now gone..and what's in its place...the old beacon pub has sadly now gone..and it's place stands a waste ground of rubbish....I would have loved to have had a beer in there back in the 80s..

@@michaelwittmann2644 well m8 where the beacon pub once stood where sues dad staggers out of its gone now all demolished and in its place when I went was a waste ground of rubbish...the area is certainly cleaner than it used to be but still rough as hell. ..Rita's house has gone and the flats where sue lived is now a green...

@@gavhinds8190 Hello, gavhinds. Thank you very much for responding. I didn't expect a reply so quickly, or one at all, but I decided to try anyway. For my own selfish reasons, it's a shame that those landmarks you mentioned are now gone. I would have liked to photograph them and experience what I saw in the movie. The locals must be delighted that the investment has improved their neighbourhood. Thanks again, dude👍😎.

Another of this person's films who uses trash as background "music". Instead of wallowing in the degradation of these buildings, why don't you actively campaign to get them saved? "Urban explorers" make me sick: they are a curse and a liability, and do nothing but harm.

The only time I went into this pub was on a hot summers day one afternoon in the 70s. Went to the bar to order a pint when a glass flew over the bar and smashed. The barman said excuse me , jumped over the bar , punched the kid and kicked him out. He then Jumped back over the bar and said was it a bitter you wanted.
