If you want to get better zoom, shoot in 4K and edit in 1080HD. You can push in using DaVinci or any editing software, but you don't lose resolution. The only tradeoff is your output is in 1080 and not in 4K.

Definitely make sure you watch this in 4K. I had KZbin on Auto so it kicked it to 720p and it looked bad, but once in 4K, the video was MUCH better.

Ordered one yesterday for primarily shooting nature and motorsports. The pro's far outweighed the cons as I don't care about shallow depth of field or low light performance nearly as much as I care about ease of use and the convenience of the single lens and power zoom etc. The ability to reasonably shoot hand held is a huge thing for me when jumping out of the car to shoot wildlife which is not going to stick around for me if I don't get the shot quickly. If it performs half as well as I think it well I will be happy.

Watson makes good replacement batteries for camcorders and such that are much more affordable than Sony batteries. I've been buying them for my staff for years. Manual focus for the surf framed by the flowers. ;)

Nice! Simple is best sometimes, love it! What fluid head do you use?
I have been surfing off and on for over 25 years and have never had a session like this on the east coast. It is either on for a few hours then it’s lousy. I remember one similar session at Croatan Beach, Virginia. I have to generally drive 2-5 hours to get to the breaks. Maybe someday I’ll get my perfect session, but in the mean time I’m happy getting in the water whenever I can... 🤙🤙

I can proudly say East coasters are a unique breed of surfers. We work harder than most to get waves because we understand how special it is when all the conditions come together. I've had some of the best sessions of my life in Florida when the magic happened for about an hour!

I watched a psaa wave pool event in 88 or so in palm springs that slater lost 2 chris brown in 1 foot surf, although wave r highly improved, go rick cane, its repetitive and lacks the unpredictability that the ocean provides

I've been lucky to have been twice. Video doesn't replicate the actual feeling of being in the channel. My wife loves the power coming out the back after a wave breaks. Cindy's boat is the go because it has an upstairs viewing platform.

I don’t think the women’s and the men’s tour numbers need to be the same. Per capita the ratio is actually a disadvantage to men if you think of the global surf numbers proportionate to the population. It does feel like it should be even numbers but surely men outnumber women in surfing by a minimum of x 4. Next time you go for a surf I can guarantee that there will be 1/8th females in the line up at an absolute maximum
@OldSurfDad12 күн бұрын
This is an interesting take on it and I have to say I agree with your premise. This morning I went for a surf and was thinking about this. The first place I stopped in the morning darkness was a grumpy old man point break. No women there and it was already crowded so I went to the beachy and I noticed 2 women surfing out of ten of us. That's a very small statistical pool, but I get what you mean. Just something either doesn't feel right with the smaller number of women on tour or that the level is so high that it seems unfair that some of them don't make the CT. The same could be argued for the men though. hmm 🤔
@t_bone_collector12 күн бұрын
Can’t argue with that although in my neighbourhood there is an increased population of young girls surfing. I think 5 spots for women’s CT qualification is brutal
@danumba1son41912 күн бұрын
Yeah I feel like my gut reaction initially was that it should be closer to even because it sounded right. But once I thought about the numbers it’s actually the men that statistically have it harder. I also think that the women’s field will grow and the sport will grow if they do expand the field. There is no denying that the equal pay measures and investment into women’s surfing at the professional level/WSL level has grown women’s participation exponentially. So maybe you expand the field first and the rest will follow? But I think as of right now there’s not a whole lot of women at the high level that I like to watch but they are definitely on their way with this new generation. I think 5 is ok for now but it will no doubt need to expand in the coming years

Hey dudes! I heard what you said about the long boarders so I checked out the Abu Dhab event and I agree the way the waves broke and shaped up changed quite a bit between waves. I’m curious to see the different settings for the shortboarders. I wanted to say a few things about the Olympics after thinking about it for a few weeks now that it’s ended. I do now think the event should be in a wave pool for the Olympics. The Olympics aren’t for the best of the best but who is the best on the day, in all sports. Rock climbing seems like the closest event to surfing for me. For the Olympics they make all their walls in controlled spaces, and it was exiting and entertaining and I could follow it in a few mins without knowing much about the sport. If we’re gonna have people who don’t follow surfing be able to understand it and remain engaged we should have the waves show up on demand every few mins. The WSL is for the best overall surfers in the world that year who can preform in all conditions etc. (then again on finals day😅) Next, we should all be watching at least 2-5 mins of the longboarding events so it gets views on KZbin. If they can show it’s popular enough we can get it as a second discipline in the Olympics and the sport will be more likely to remain in the Olympics past the next couple cycles the USA and Australia. Thanks again for all the insights and takes on last year! 🌊
@OldSurfDad24 күн бұрын
Yo! Thanks for this..I had a conversation with Jim Kempton (Editor of Surfer back in the day and a walking treasure trove of surf history) and we came up with the same thoughts on the Olympics. Basically, good for the Olympics, not good for the WSL. Problem is though the WSL is a part of the wave pool business and it's going to be hard for them to resist the temptation of profitability and a more structured schedule. I'm old school and prefer ocean surfing, but I'm trying to keep my mind open to future possibilities. Thanks as always for being part of the channel. Really appreciate you man!

I'm still not 100% on the rules. Is he saying you can only pick the same person 1 time for the entire season? For example, if I chose Medina for Teahopoo, I can't pick him again for ANY other competition?
@OldSurfDadАй бұрын
Yes, what you said is correct. You can not pick the same surfer twice which makes the strategy interesting. Do you save surfers for late season or do you put the best prospects first to make it to the end? Ha. It’s a damn good time and I’ve never been close (made it to El Salvador this year. Thanks for watching.

Great show! Thank you for all the on site information and especially the interviews. So insightful and interesting! Not a big fan of Tati but I loved the interview. I always have difficulties listening to Caroline. She seems fun but to be honest, never anything deep that she reveals. It’s all very much on the surface and I’m just not interested in that. I hope that JJF and Caity win because they were simply the best surfers this season and they deserve it but we also might see Griff and Caroline on top. I’m still torn between watching or not. I don’t like the concept but I don’t have other plans today and your show made me kind of hyped up to watch. Love your content, keep it coming. Highly appreciated!
