Do you have any advice on bit speedsfor the drill toolpath? I primarily use mdf,, oak and alder.

Not really. There are a lot of variables involved, such as the strength/rigidity of your CNC, the type and size of bit, whether you use a spindle or router, the HP rating of your spindle/router, etc... I start conservative, take notes so I can remember what works and what doesn't, and go from there.

Hi Mr. Lindsay, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge; I have learned a lot from your videos. Still there is something I can't figure out: I'm working on a map I imported, which includes the states inside that country and, in some cases, I have 3 or 4 vectors meeting at the intersections. I'm not able to join this vectors. I'd appreciate any help in this regard. I use vcarve pro. Thank you very much.

Hi. Again a good video making me a little more clever. I have a question though. I’m using Vcarve pro, and would like to use these preconfigured positions. Is it possible to tell Vcarve that I would like to work in G59, ore one of the other pre configured positions. Without telling the exact distance and only using the G-command? It vould be easier than remembering the numbers! Thanks again for the excellent video

Arguably one of the simplest tool paths, yet potentially the most dangerous. Let’s hope your repetitive warnings against the use down cut bits is heeded. As always, informative, well done.

Mark, Have you or anyone having problems with the upgraded aspire. I've been having problems with the profile cuts. It doesn't cut at the depth set as or the number of passes. And sometimes it won't add the tabs as set and shown.
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 7 күн бұрын
I've not heard of those issues at all. I'd send an email to Vectric Support, and attach that file to the email so they can see if they can replicate the problem.

@MarkLindsayCNC I can't get them to respond. I've tried several times with no luck. I have a shark hd520 and talked to the manufacturer. They sent me tap files to run, and it runs fine. But when I use aspire to run a profile cut, it goes wacky.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be any help to you. As I've said, I've not experienced the issues you're having. You have a tech support question, and I'm not qualified to troubleshoot your issues. Your best bet is to bug Vectric Support or try posting your issue on the Vectric Forum. Someone over there may have an answer for you.

Do you find sealing your spoil board stops it from swelling over time?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 7 күн бұрын
No. I used to seal my spoilboard, but I haven't bothered for the last couple of years. I haven't noticed any difference in the durability or swelling at all. If I suspect a section has swollen, I just resurface the entire spoilboard, removing .010 inches per pass until it's nice and flat, then carry on.

A cheaper version of the granite surface plate. Get the biggest piece of glass that will fit on your router bed. Then use just a simple dial indicator with the longest arm you can find. The larger the diameter you sweep with the dial = more accurate tram. Thays just my OCD talking 😂

I made a video using that very technique several years back. When I upgraded to the Avid CNC, I decided to try this method. It's been my experience, the method shown in this video is more accurate than the one you described. Thanks for watching!

I missed your live show, but did watch the video. I hoped there would be questions about offsets on the live show that might answer my question. I have a laser head attached to my spindle, -2 X, -1 Y relative offset from the spindle. Can I use offsets to use both laser and spindle for a toolpath? Would offsets under toolpaths be better? I have a project where I want to cut oramask with the laser and vbit to carve the pockets, so I want an accurate way to align both toolpath operations. I Always watch your show, great info. Thanks for your contribution to CNC. John.

Mark. I am new to CNC and have been watching your videos. Great resource. I was following your video for making the 2 sided dish and I am having an issue. The thickness of my material does not show accurately when I hover my cursor over it. Im seeing the thickness at .55 and The bottom of the dish protrudes thru the bottom. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Sent you a Super Thanks!!! Question..... If you cut the inner parts as profile. wont you need tabs so that they don't break free?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 12 күн бұрын
Yes, you will. I normally don't add tabs in my demonstration videos, so I can delete the waste material and show off the complete preview. Cutting to the inside or outside doesn't matter - if you cut all the way through a piece of material, leaving no way to hold the piece in place, use tabs.

"for just one project' is the important part, in my case, my alignment pins (side guards) are not at my Sensor Home location, I could see this being used. My G56 is 24.61mm by 25.09mm from machine 0,0

Mark, Can you tell me how to make a small jewelry tray oval shaped. Roughly 4.5 x 6.5. x 1" thick. Carved out the inside with a 1/4 " border. I can add text to the carved out area but I'm having trouble getting the rose in the aspire Clipart. I can't get the rose to carve. I'm cutting the center 3/8" deep.

Mark learned a lot from this video. I always struggled with the copy and paste. I have latest VCarve Pro and when I copy and paste it does not put the copy in transformer mode.Im colorblind and had trouble telling if the copy was selected. I can get the copy to transform mode to be able to drag away but curious how to get it into transformer mode mode automatically?

Great video Mark! Q: Why aren't you concerned about making sure the Y axis of the machine is parallel to the wood piece?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC Ай бұрын
Unless the material I'm mounting is perfectly square (which is rarely the case,) I can either have one edge parallel with the X or another edge parallel with the Y. I usually choose the longer edge, which is usually the X. Typically, I just need one edge parallel with one axis, as I normally cut the piece out of the material anyway.

Mark, as always, you have a wealth of knowledge and on top of the Vectric and CNC community. As I’ve been transitioning from mostly woodworking to more CNC subs, wondered if you had a list of CNC’ers you follow. I have IDC and SpindleTV as some Vectric tutorials. I believe I have Elie as well, but he doesn’t post much. I’m an above average CNC’er, and yet to this day still have trouble with nodes (especially closing or joining open vectors). Hope that you have one tutorial in the near future. The more I watch, the more confused I become on nodes. Thanks and keep up the great work!!!

Hello. Thanks for making this video and sharing your knowledge. I've watched several of your videos and I greatly appreciate what I'm seeing and learning. I do have a question about your Touch Plate. Your Touch Plate appears to have surfaces that could be used for indicating X, Y and Z surface when needed. Can you please tell me more about that specific Touch Plate, or where can I purchase one? Thanks, Walt (Seattle, WA)

Thank you for your kind words. I now use a different touch plate most of the time, however the one used in this video is called the Triple Edge Finder, and I got it through The Makers Guide. Here's a link: www.themakersguide.com/home/products/triple-edge-finder-2
