Great video as always. I discovered this technique some time ago and have used it on a few projects but as is usually the case I picked up something new after watching your video. The Copy to Sheet command is very useful and something I had not discovered. Thank you. Also on a complex project where you have several cut files it is very important to have a fail safe way to determine which files use the machine bed and which use the material surface. Don't ask how I know.

I was hoping to know how to simply zero the z axis for a 2d pocket design but this got too complicated fast. If I use the machine bed selection, do I actually zero the z axis from the machine surface or the job surface

A ton of information thank you. I wish I could I make the Q&A but my daughter plays college softball. Soooo…..As being a complete newbie to CNC my profile cut out are way off, high because I don’t want to cut into the board. Would zeroing the Z axis in the profile tool path to the table be accurate to cut out the project? I hope that makes since. Ventricle 11.5 desktop.

I would suggest you sort out your profile cuts being way off (too high) before trying anything else. Step 1 is to calibrate all of your axes. If they're out of calibration, it doesn't matter where you set your Z zero - they're not going to move to the correct location or cutting depth. I'll talk about this further during the Live Q&A, because typing everything out here would take up a page itself.

If you are cutting a full sheet that covers the whole machine bed, is there a way to use the machine bed as the Z0

Yes. Simply set your Z zero to the machine bed before you mount the material.
