This video is exactly why I like extreme media and exploitation films and all those transgressive creations. Regardless if the author wanted to just make porn or say something profound, there is so much to anaylize about the human condition and experience, but specially the sides we often try to hide and ignore.

Can't believe you made me read Tool by Sotos with this video

I haven't watched this full video yet, but I want to inform you of a particularly interesting mystery that you might want to research: There is an "unpublished" (or perhaps it would be better described as semi-published) manuscript by Peter Sotos that has been considered by some to be his masterpiece, entitled (and I have to censor this so that KZbin won't censor it for me) "Playground S*x". Segments from it were used as lyrics in some Whitehouse songs (I know "Daddo", for sure). Other excerpts were read by Sotos himself in a track on a rare CD entitled "Proxy," which was a companion piece to the book of the same name. The Proxy track was actually right here on KZbin until recently - now it is rather hard to find. The full text itself was technically published twice, I believe: once in an exceedingly small number (150, I believe) of hand-bound printings by the French zine "Timeless," and once in one of the rare additional materials provided for preorders to certain books, entitled "Waitress." Now, there were actually multiple different materials entitled "Waitress" with different contents, which makes it even harder to identify. The part on the CD, if I remember correctly, initially dealt with a drug-addicted mother selling her two year old daughter to a stranger. There are virtually no other descriptions online about the rest of the contents, except for a single reference I found stating that the bulk of it was about JonBenet Ramsay. Sotos has zero online presence and honestly seems like he genuinely doesn't want people to actually read ANY of his shit (it's all pretty hard to find - I might suggest people try Anna's Archive for most of his literature). I say this in order to point out that he's not going to be any help in finding it, so I don't know what course to take on the matter. Everything indicates that it's quite good and a very important piece in his overall output but it legitimately is almost entirely lost right now. If you found a way to obtain it, you'd be an absolute hero haha.

I wonder if transgression has to do with people being obsessed with old ways of being moral.

Everything mentioned was dead on(except the voodoo thing I’ve never read it so can’t comment) however I’m disappointed you left McCarthy off your list. I don’t think there is a darker grittier exploration of southern gothic than outer dark. Suttree can easily fall into the southern gothic camp while not as dark and even humorous it’s a more approachable book. Even child of god while dark and twisted is an easy read and definitely fits the southern gothic culture. While I prefer his western writing McCarthys southern gothic really has a Faulkner feel only darker.

I judged the book by the amazing cover, then was horribly disappointed by the story.
