Mine is a 2017 w/ 72k miles. Zero plans to sell. That being said, you are brave to drive it in the DMV during the winter...Idk about MDOT, but VDOT just absolutely loves to drop 6 inches of salt brine whenever there's a chance of a flurry 😭
@BWItoATXFСағат бұрын
I’ve actually gotten lucky with the car. Bought Summer 2019, moved down to Texas Sept 2019. Didn’t see salt for a while during my ownership. I think it may have seen only a handful full but never full snow on the ground. Now it’s fully parked. I really lucked up. 0 rust on the car or bolts. Still very easy to work on, how it should be. Got that LS just in time for MD to get back to normal with winter events.

Hey there, I have a Lexus IS300 awd 2019 and it requires group 24 but I am wondering if group 34 would work well/better/worse? Also am considering an AGM battery because I find my dash cam turning off when I get in my car in the morning. Would getting an agm battery solve this or just a regular battery would be good? I hear mix things about agm battery, was told by a parts guy from Lexus that an AGM battery can damage the alternator and cause it to work to hard? Not sure if thats true.
@BWItoATXFСағат бұрын
I would check the reserve and CCA for comparison. Reason I got the AGM was for my dash cam. But ended up going external battery because it was too inconsistent with parking mode run time. I haven’t heard anything about running an AGM battery ruining the alt. Ran multiple AGM batteries including this one for 3 years. Never had an issue. Sounds invalid to me unless there’s something I’m missing.
@prodigy6X04Сағат бұрын
Did you find the agm good or was it overkill or not as applicable? I'm having that dash cam issue too. Not sure if I should get a brand new regular battery/switch to agm. So you said even switching to agm, you ran jnto the same problem that the dash cam would turn off over night?
@BWItoATXFСағат бұрын
@prodigy6X04 the AGM still served its purpose as it was a deep cycle every time the cutoff was reached. The AGM will always be better instead of a flooded as flooded will never be designed for a deep cycle like this. BUT it was still way too variable. Getting a consistent external battery (BlackVue for me) gives me a few hours in just 8 min of driving hard wired. I can get a full day when these packs are fully charged.

What was the corrective action on the catalytic converter for the car. I'm throwing a P0420 code intermittently that will self-clear. I have to do some testing to determine whether it's O2 sensor vs the catalytic converter.
@BWItoATXFКүн бұрын
Hey Kevin. I believe it was a full cat that was replaced. However, I am not too sure the code they received. Looks like a common issue on that code is a leak via a developed hole in the Y pipe that can be corrected at a muffler shop. us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/70886-fault-codes-p0430-and-p0420-on-ls430/

@@BWItoATXF I go back and forth on whether to sort out that problem. It's not enough to kill my emissions test in Illinois. OTOH the light can be annoying at times. Removes the need for bi annual emissions and lower registration. Passing state inspection is not required for tags. Caveat is you’re supposed to only drive on weekends for exhibition. Beautiful Car. Congrats! I have a 2003 LS430 Ultra. It's my favorite car to driver. About the sound. The sound system is absolutely impeccable, provided the speakers are all working. The LS430 has better sound than my Tesla Model S and Audi Q7. Here's the deal. One of the few design flaws of the LS430 is the speakers detach from the housing. It sounds like a blown speaker. I'll almost guarantee your subwoofer is also detached. They sell "refoaming" kits for LS430s for like 70 bucks. If you are interested, I can walk you through how to do it. There's plenty of KZbin videos too. Trust me. You do NOT want to change the speakers. Use the OEM. Oh and the Mark Levinson amplifier is super sensitive to blowing if it sees a speaker with a different impedence out of spec. And that costs a shit ton to replace. One final recc...get a GROM audio. They're expensive but worth every penny.
@BWItoATXF14 күн бұрын
Hey thanks man. I’ve done some diagnostics and confirmed that each amp channel is fine and the impedance was dead on both the door and sub. I had two drivers with 0 load so they completely failed and are unsalvageable. No clue how not one, but two failed. I’ve since replaced the door speaker. Works fine now. The sub I refoamed a replacement one I bought off of a LS owner and did it wrong. Before I even put load to it, noticed it was foamed off axis. Had to remove fresh glue and cut the cut the dust cover so I could shim. I have yet to reglue the 2nd surround just yet. I will say, that the sound is very decent for the age. But it does show the age a bit. Compared the the RC F ML, there is some room for improvement. But it’s far from the worst out there. The OEM impedances really are a bit annoying as it makes it virtually impossible to do an overhaul where the amp will be comfortable. I MAY eventually overhaul completely with a line driver, completely bypassing the ML amp and going after market. But that will be a long time in the future.

@BWItoATXF14 күн бұрын
That’s not a bad technique. Unfortunately the fresh glue needing to be removed compromised a bit of the cone. But it should be good for one last go around. I’ll try to capture the shim and refoam for you. I’m questioning if this donor driver is even good. The voice coil smells a bit burnt but worth a shot. I should be able to nail the technique though to get it refoamed on axis.

@@BWItoATXF I have a working speaker that needs to be refoamed from the rear doors (can't remember off the top of my head if front door and rear door speakers are different). Happy to mail it to you if it will help with your car. Also, here's The Car Care Nut's install of the GROM audio. I actually had him install it. Thanks for the offer! I am unsure if the front and rear speakers are the same, but I already replaced that door channel speaker in the front and fully operational.
