one track remover and truck sat too far away. one platform smasher and all the rubble just left there. maybe need to look how the likes of Japan and China deal with their railway overhauls FAST and SAFE. it takes too long to do anything in this country

MPV - Multi Purpose Vehicle. It can be used for several differnet duties such as weedspraying & waterjetting + sandite spraying in the Autumn to help improve rail conditions during the leaf fall season. It is also used at times as a crew training vehicle

It's nice to see that they at least preserved ONE of these units. The others could have joined them, but NO. The gutsy bastards decided to scrap all the others. Waste of time and money if you ask me...

One unit preserved is better than nothing. The 450s were great trains but they had their time the railway had to upgrade plus nothing lasts forever yes it is sad to see any trains ending up scrapped but it's what happens when stock are life expired so no point calling train operators names for scrapping stock. It is simply not possible to save everything.

No these 4000s are currently not passed out to run to Dublin as they don't have the signalling safety systems or Irish rail train radio installed. Their oldest sisters the 3000s can run to Dublin.

It's not discussed much in the Thomas fandom, but many of the stories in the railway series by the Rev Awdry had taken inspiration from stories about the railways in Ireland, the more laxed attitude to regulation, and frankly the Irish landscape had a much more intertwined network of narrow and "regular" gauges too.

A39 working push / pull ! It looks a lot better now in the black and orange the livery it got in 1970 after re-engining. It was the last A class I worked as 039 with Irish Rail in March 1995. Have been on it a few times in Downpatrick where it lives on thanks to the great care of all the volunteers up there.

Passenger numbers are increasing especially with the nearby Ulster University campus now opened so the old building was too small to meet the demand and was worn out. Plus the station was urgently in need a major facelift.

Supose im just in love with late 80s 90s Northern Ireland railways 80 class and 450 class railcars damn i loved them trains i live in Larne and miss the sound of 450s thumpers flying down Larne lough and the red NIR logo. Its great that NIR network is being modrenised but miss the old days lol Im glad i havent seen GVS being knocked down i would find that very sad.

Unlike many other disused railway stations, I think Yorkgate is a building that it is entirely unsuitable for being repurposed as a shop, a restaurant or a workshop etc. Now that a much larger and necessary replacement station has been completed and is functioning, it's not needed any more.
