That is so cool!👍😃 I absolutely love the embroidered picture. It really takes your craft to another level and it's absolutely gorgeous.♥️🥰♥️ Your website with instructions to make this bowl guided me here but while I was on your website, I clicked your affiliate links. I was blown away by your sewing machine's features. It seems you have the luxury car model of a sewing machine.... a sewing machine that could possibly require extensive training just to use it. I'm so jealous. 😄 I'm still using my Kenmore sewing machine I bought in the late 80's when my daughter was a wee little girl. It doesn't do fancy but it does enough for my use and it does zig-zag so I could make one of these bowls although if I had a machine like yours, I'd invent things to make just so I could make use of it! 😁 Thank you so much for sharing this lovely tutorial. 🙏♥️😊 Btw... what are the options for someone who doesn't have an embroidery machine to be able to add a beautiful bottom to their basket like you have on yours? That is really so very pretty!🥰♥️😍

I'm so glad you found my tutorial helpful! If you don't have an embroidery machine you can use fabric paint, stencils, or even decoupage to decorate the bottom of your basket. Another option is to sew a piece of fabric onto the bottom of the bowl.

I do love my machine. I sewed on a Brother for years prior to my Janome. My biggest frustration with my Brother was how the machine would bounce across the table when I sewed. Trust me, I could go on and on about all the features I love about my Janome. As far as decorating or embellishing the bottom of the rope basket, fabric is a pretty option. You can cut a circle out of some decorative fabric and zigzag to stitch in place. I hope this helps!

I am almost always in a wheelchair and am delighted with the Start/Stop button which is much easier than struggling with a foot pedal. But I don't see much info about sewing with the S/S button and the free motion foot. It seems to me that the S/S button seems not to stop right away--important for some kinds of free motion patterns (e.g., a Greek style border pattern). I haven't done much free motion sewing. Is this less of a problem if I sew with the needle down?
@TheBirchCottage18 күн бұрын
I just tried free motion quilting with my Janome 8200 using the start/stop button. When I pressed stop, it stopped stitching immediately. I tried with the up/down needle position set to up and again while set to down. Once I pressed stop, the needle stopped in either the up or down position. It did not continue to make additional stitches. I guess, if I were you, I’d try both and see which, in any, works better for you. To change the needle position (in case you don’t know), press the settings button (has a little wrench with SET) on the LCD screen. Then press the MODE button to navigate to POS UP dn. Use the left/right arrow buttons to navigate back and forth. The selection will flash. So if you have dn selected, you should see dn flashing. Press the settings button to accept the change. I hope this helps! Let me know what you figured out.

Awesome video ! Thank you! Does it matter how the thread comes off the spool? I see yours comes ‘under’ not over the spool?
@TheBirchCottageАй бұрын
That is a loaded question. It really depends on the type of thread or rather how the thread is would on the spool. The most important thing is for the thread to come off the top of the spool. So take a look at you thread spool and make sure you insert it onto the thread pin so the thread is coming off the top of the spool. I hope This makes sense!

I have to disagree with you on holding the hook, you in my opinion are telling people only one way of holding the hook, and that there is another way, holding it like a fork is the way it was done in earlier years, go back and find out how it is done if you don't know what I am talking about. I think it is a disservice to new crocheters that you are not teaching how to do it, give them a choice.
@TheBirchCottageАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. I acknowledge there is another way. It is not the way I use, so it it not the way I teach. My daughter is left-handed. I am right-handed. Try as I might, I cannot crochet left-handed. But, she was able to learn by sitting across from me and mirroring what I was doing. I teach the best way that I know. If someone would like to learn how to crochet by holding the hook differently, there are plenty of other video tutorials out there.

Thank you for the tutorial! My machine has a maximum width on zigzag at 4 mm. Would that mean I need to use thinner rope to make these? If you are using 7 mm width for (approx) 5 mm rope, I guess I would have to use 3 mm rope and then the coasters would of course be significantly thinner.
@TheBirchCottage2 ай бұрын
Actually, you should be able to stitch on the 5mm rope no problems. You don’t need the stitch to be as wide as the rope, just wide enough so your zig zag stitch crosses both rows of rope. The n other words, your stitch doesn’t need to be that wide. Just slow your stitch speed down and give it a try!
