Great video. I also doing this rope coasters from Asia. May I know the suitable machines for this. Thanks

I use a Janome 8200, but most sewing machines that are capable of stitching a zig zag stitch should be able to sew rope.

Your video is the best I've found! I just made my first-ever coaster but was surprised at the white-colored synthetic core inside the rope. It shows at both ends of my coil. That makes it not acceptable as a gift, but I'll use it at home. I used HyperTough Diamond-Braided Cotton Clothesline (from Walmart) - the package said nothing about a non-cotton core. I see that the brand you provided a link to also has a "synthetic core". Is there an all-cotton option out there?

I have found all cotton rope at my local hardware stores. But a great source for all things rope basket online is The Mountain Thread Company. Here's a link to their website: www.themountainthreadcompany.com/rope I hope this helps!

I may have missed it, but do you stitch both sides of the coaster?
@TheBirchCottage12 күн бұрын
No, you only stitch on one side. The stitching will go through the rope.

Thanks for this interesting video. Did you make the wreath on your door that is seen in this video? If so, would you have a tutorial of making one?😊

Hi, Debbie. Yes, I made the wreath! And you can watch my video tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4PTdHt9hqhspLM

I've seen a few how-to videos on the topic of making rope trivets/coasters and was very glad to see that you included the amount of rope it takes to complete this project. Kudos! Also - couldn't help but notice your pin cushion.....may I ask where you purchased it or how you made it? Thank you! Looking forward to more crafting videos from you.

Thanks, Dianne! Actually, my husband turned the bowl on his lathe. Then I simply cut two pieces of fabric, slightly bigger in circumference than the bowl. I sewed the two pieces together, stuffed with poly-fill, stitched the opening closed and shoved it into the bowl. I’ve actually seen where some people glue the cushion into the bowl, but I didn’t find it necessary. Hope this helps! And thanks for the kind words!!

Thanks for a great tutorial on how to make a rope coaster. I think I have some clothesline rope and I'll try it today. One helpful hint: do you have a knee lift for your machine? I have found using my knee lift gives me a "third" hand to manipulate my project. I sew with my left foot and use my knee lift. Thanks again.
@TheBirchCottage2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Rori! That is a great idea to us the knee lift. Why didn’t I think of that?

I’m having trouble with my coaster (or beginning of my bowl) wanting to buckle or not lie flat when I use thinner (4-5mm rope). Do you have any advice on how to keep it flat?
@TheBirchCottage Жыл бұрын
Hi, Karen. Here are my tips: - Start with the coiled and insert pins through the coils to hold them together. Make sure the rope end is coming around the top of the coil and to the right. - Sew across the coiled rope in an "X" shape. Being careful not to stitch over the pins. Remove pins. - Keep your hands or fingers on TOP of the rope. Again, the tail of the rope should be off to the right. - Use your right hand to guide the rope tail and keep it snug against your coil. - Use your left hand to turn the coiled rope as you stitch. - GO SLOW for best results. By using your right hand to guide the rope tail, that will also help to keep the rope smooth and straight. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love it. I have one question. When sewing the circle, do you let the needle go into the outer robe or does it go over the robe (far right side)?
@TheBirchCottage2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Gabi. The needle is actually going into about the middle of the rope on each side of the needle. So, for the left needle position, the needle goes down into the middle of the section of rope to the left of the needle. Then for the right needle position, the needle goes down into the middle of the section of rope to the right of the needle. Great question! Thank you for asking!

Hello Pam, how many mm is the rope?
@TheBirchCottage Жыл бұрын
I used 3/16” diameter rope. I believe the conversion to mm is 4.7625. Hope this helps!

Hello do you know how to stop the fraying thank you
@TheBirchCottage Жыл бұрын
Since you're dealing with natural fibers, you can't simply just singe the ends of the rope. I've tried using scotch or transparent tape, but I really didn't like having the tape in my finished project. I just try to be careful with the ends, touch them as little as possible, and also cutting them at an angle seems to help. I have also tried spraying the ends of the rope with spray starch and even hairspray. Both seem to provide a temporary hold. Hopefully, one of these ideas will work for you. Please let me know if you find a better solution.
@hunterwatson8613Ай бұрын
Maybe you could whip the end of the rope. Whipping entails using a fine (thin) cord to bind the end of ropes and cordage to stop them fraying
