Hi, any tips of what to do if the puppy targets the human instead of the toy when we do this?? it's almost like she's fixated on the person as a giant toy and she wouldn't bite any other toy other than the human 😢. we would remove ourselves from her when this happens because at that point nothing will be able to stop her or distract her, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. once we engage again, she would fixate on the walking human toy again.

Thanks for this trip, Tonya. I grew up in Northwest Indiana and spent a lot of time at the Dunes for many years. It's good to see that there are still some unspoiled spots. And yes, the naturalists will use those seats when they are giving tours and allow folks to sit down and rest.

We have a bag of whole frozen sardines. I see that you thaw, portion and refreeze. Obviously us humans can't eat refrozen foods, I am guessing that this is OK for dogs ? One of our dogs (Cocker Spaniel) has consistent (5 years of 2/3 times per year) of ear infections and we heard that it could be his diet of mostly chicken based kibble, so we want to move away from that and include raw to see if that helps.
@CavalierTipsandFun5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I thaw before feeding, unless it's into an interactive toy, where I may freeze again Yes, a fresh diet can significantly improve their health and allergies. Do you know what your Cocker is allergic to? Switching back and forth from food to food usually isn't too helpful if there's a food allergy. You can read more about allergies in my article- raisingyourpetsnaturally.com/pet-food-elimination-diet/ ~Tonya

@CavalierTipsandFun Thanks for the reply. I bought a kg of frozen sardines a few weeks ago and was going to experiment to see how my dog liked them. Thank you for sharing. Can I ask a question please - Does it get confusing for the pup when they are constantly exposed to the marker YES word in luring and then after that you try to introduce the cue word - SIT.
@CavalierTipsandFun5 ай бұрын
Not at all. The yes is telling them what they did is correct, earning a reward. The lure is to get the behavior to happen, which eventually, slowly gets faded as you add the cue.

Great tips- thank you.👍 do you always use the maker word -Yes? And do you eliminate that word once the cue word is learnt?
@CavalierTipsandFun5 ай бұрын
I use a marker, either yes or a clicker. This helps the learning, because it tells the dog that's it, that's the behavior I wanted. Once the behavior is learned, in one environment, I start to make more challenges, by adding new environments, distractions and start to vary when reinforced
