I can't tell you how important "paws up" has been in my life with dogs. It was most important in getting in the car, because I didn't want them to jump too hard or too high. When I gave the command, they would put their paws up on the sill of the door. Then I could boost them. It was much easier than lifting and better for them than jumping.
