I highly recommend the Japanese made 'Tsunoda PLC-200S Slim Pliers with Spring'. For just a few dollars more than the regular PLC-200, the spring pair have additional machining to receive a small, hidden spring under the rivet, making them spring 'open return' pliers, and boy are they nice. Aside from the spring, and the extra three bucks (Cdn.), everything else is exactly the same as the regular 'slims' (PLC-200), and the spring also aides in flipping the pliers to the second position one handed. Additionally, the 'Slims' have a 'hot rivet' in place of the more common nut and bolt, minimizing play, as well as diagonally opposed teeth for vastly improved grip.

I keep both in my tool bag. With that being said, If I could only have one, it would be the adjustable wrench. pliers wrench is great if you are torquing it while standing vertical to the handle. Well where I work a lot of times you only got straight-in access to nuts and bolts, so in those cases I can only get my wrench on horizontal to me. in that case, I’d stick that adjustable on the nut and hit the side of it with my hammer to loosen the rusted nut. Can’t do that with a pliers wrench because, as you mentioned, you need to grip both handles to on them to prevent them from slipping. Anyway, I went on eBay and bought some vintage craftsmen made in USA adjustables and they work better than 90 percent of the shit out there nowadays. I highly recommend older tools

Can't believe how stupid, rather stubborn you are. You do have to squeeze both handle just to prevent it from falling down, can't you see? It's a fucking wrench. What do you expect other than some sort of squeeze mechanism. Go ahead use your adjustable wrench (century old technology ) since you like it so much.

Your main argument is that you can use the adjustable wrench while only applying pressure from one side at this point (and while pushing, because you can always have pressure on both sides of the pliers wrench while pulling). That is such a niche advantage compared to the many benefits of a faster reset, crimping ability, much larger sizing, and not having them come loose if you're using them right. Technically, if you're using any wrench correctly, you will always reset so you're always pulling on them to eliminate the risk of destroying your knuckles, which completely mitigates and disproves your "proof" because you're suggesting the only way the adjustable wrench is superior is when both tools are used improperly. The pliers wrench has far more potential, capability, and speed. All that said, if you want raw torque, get a real wrench made for that fastener.

Oh, and all of this is shattered by the Knipex Raptors, which solve all of the complaints listed about the pliers wrench. You can push from only one side and they clamp harder as you apply force because they operate like the Cobras, only they're flat-faced and contact 3 sides. They're not as versatile as the pliers wrench, but they will crush the adjustable wrench in potential torque capacity because they're specifically made for rounded fasteners in the first place.

You are brave to post this. The only time I use an adjustable wrench is when tensioning glass refrigerator door springs on commercial Hussman refrigerators. Even that will soon be replaced by a small pliers wrench, and I've already decommissioned my large adjustable wrench with a Fujiya pliers wrench made in Japan (only $40 compared to Knipex) They cover a much larger area than 2-4 adjustable wrenches, allow me to apply much more torque, double as copper tubing clamps, are faster to adjust, and are lighter than the equivalent-sized adjustable wrench. They aren't worth their weight anymore.

Tekton makes good torque wrenches and other tools for a good price. They also have a great warranty. Most of their tools are made in Taiwan but more of them are made in America every year

5:22 you lucky s.o.b !!! you got your hands on a Mexican Klein tool 🇲🇽 They have a factory in Mexico that make Mexican made Klein tools to sell out there to the Mexican consumers, you have no idea the amount of money the Mexican dudes at my company would pay for anything Klein made in Mexico 😅 Especially linemen/ironworker pliers, easily over $100 for them even if used.

Dude, that Lollipop driver is the nuts (poker term). Just 42g and 3.8". Acts like a silent in-line ratchet but has that extra leverage L handle up its sleeve to get things started or torque things down. The perfect EDC pocket screwdriver.

I've never had the snap on Im sure they are wonderful but as a farmer my pliers are an extension of my body, literally lost without them and the Icon's are hands down the best I've ever used! I was a fan of the vise grip one's until the last pair I bought couldn't cut baling wire so needed a new option and boy I'm glad I found the Icons!!

One good thing about building a set of wrenches is eBay has a lot of singles it time you should be able to finish that proto set. Those proto wrenches are top quality you would need a Mac or snap on to replace them

If you don’t like tacky feeling “rubber” grips you should still try them on the professional brands if you can afford them. Which clearly you have a snap on already. They don’t ever really get tacky and hold up to solvents. The only issue I have with them with hard everyday use they will eventually breakdown and gwt beat up. They last a long time but it’s still an issue. You can warranty the grips. The bahco adjustable you have is a good example of that. Same with the wera.

In the automotive field slip joints still have a versatile role and many techs use them. I personally recommend the newer snap on needle nose style slip joints for this role if you want only one pair. It’s just more versatile. But own many myself and use them all at times. As a home repair and carpenter as far DIY goes, I don’t see as big of a need for slip joints. Still useful at times but much more limited. I do like the knipex twin grip more for this role.

I can't be sure, but i think the problem for the guy in the video might be from the distance the pliers wrench handle moves away from him. He's probably no longer applying as much force evenly, and there's probably some let-off that's leading to the rounding issue he's having. If he were to not go attempt to go as far and bring the handles back a bit closer before continuing, he might have better luck with them. That said, he may not like having to do that, so the crescent style may be better for him with how he uses them. Something else to consider: with crescent style wrenches, you may get good grip initially when you tighten them to remove any slop, which is great for a final but of tightening it initial loosening, but you certainly won't be able to get a nut all the way screwed down as fast as they don't slip onto the nut as easily and need to be requested frequently. This isn't a problem with nuts and bolts where you can finger tighten them without much issue, but many nuts and bolts are difficult to completely thread using your fingers. I've gotten meant about a quarter to halfway threaded when it becomes really difficult to turn with my fingers. The pliers wrench would be much quicker for that task. Lastly, I'm pretty sure that so long as you are able to provide constant force to the upper handle, the pliers wrench will clamp with much greater force compared to what you can tighten the crescent style with. And, considering there is usually some discrepancy in the actual size of the nut or bolt head such that there is often slop/play when it comes to using a good box wrench, the powers wrench should be able to have less rounding than box wrenches so long as you aren't trying to turn the nut or bolt to much before releasing and resetting the starting point for applying force
