Defender and Missile Command are amazing conversions (even more so with Stargate) but there are better versions of those games. @markrotondella4689 I've stayed with console games. I've never felt I had to play on PC. I even bought a dang 3DO for like 600 dollars in 94. I went from 1) atari 2600 2) atari 7800 3) NES/ sega/Sega CD/SEGA 32X 4) SUPER NES) N64 5) Sega Saturn 6) ps1 7)ps2/ xbox 8) xbox360/Wii 9) xbox 1 10) xbox one s/ nintendo switch 11) xbox series x. So yea never played on PC. Console has always been my thing. I really wish I had kept all my consoles over the years but sadly I only kept my PS2, Wii, xbox series x and Nintendo switch. I should have kept my genesis/sega cd/32x monstrosity. It took me a while to get all of it, at the time I was 17/18 years old so I was broke and 300 dollars each piece was expensive. I remember going to toys r us and blowing my entire paycheck on the sega CD.

Adventure was great. So many options and special tools. Superman was a simple concept but hard to win. You had to catch 6 criminals but some of them are on the subway. Night Driver was a very simplistic game but it was fun. And you needed the special paddle controllers.
@markrotondella468926 күн бұрын
I just went through all the paddle games and came back to Night Driver I played it so much back in the day but didn't think I would enjoy it now but I was pleasantly surprised I still liked the game and the driving skills were still there from all the reps in my childhood.

@@markrotondella4689 Here's a fun thing to do to a noob. Night Driver has those double paddles. If someone else wants to play, hand them the wrong paddle. Going to add: Raiders of the Lost Ark was an excellent game on the 2600. It's all relative, of course, but while I love Adventure, Raiders was in the exact same genre and had the same, "Just keep playing and you'll figure it out," attitude and was bs. I had to read an article in some offbeat PC World ripoff magazine how to beat it. 1982 was rough to young gamers. And in fifteen hours, the new Raiders game officially drops on my xbox, forty-three years later. Indy in Unreal vs 8 bit.

Surprised you didn't mention Private Eye, Montezuma's Revenge, Pressure Cooker, or Off the Wall. If you've never played any of those, I highly recommend checking them all out! Montezuma's Revenge isn't as good on Atari as it is on other platforms, but it's still a really impressive technical achievement and a game that's largely on par with the likes of Pitfall 2. And the other three are all Atari 2600 exclusives, if I'm not mistaken, and are excellent titles in their own right that are still an absolute blast to play.
@markrotondella4689Ай бұрын
Those all are great recommendations. I haven't played Off the Wall and haven't played much Private Eye it's is certainly unique. Pressure Cooker really does deserve to be on the list being the first proper time management game - you could argue Tapper but Pressure Cooker is more complete. Platforming games have to be one of the biggest asks for the Atari it really wasn't something it was meant to do so any decent ones are a huge achievement and Montezuma is a very nice port to the Atari.

I hadn't heard of most of the games you mention, and some of the others I actually did have, I thought they sucked almost as much as the ET game. However, you did hit some of the best games, River Raid, Pitfall, Space Invaders! Besides these there were a ton of others that were 100x better than all the others you showed. You showed a Frogger knock off but NO Frogger, that is a crime and what about Defender or Asteroids or even a basic favorite if mine Super Breakout. I have it stored away but I still have my old 2600 and about 100 games! Thanks for the video it was a fun view!
@markrotondella46892 ай бұрын
Thanks I love the enthusiasm. To make it easier I was sticking to games where the Atari is (in my opinion the best or equal best version of the game). Frogger on the Atari was fantastic both the Parker brothers version and the Starparth one but there are stronger versions of it on other platforms. I played the hell out of Defender but same is true there. I was tempted to put Asteroids in because although the arcade version is beautiful it was too hard for my liking. I wouldn't argue with anyone putting Super Breakout on their list. You should give Frostbite a go it's pretty awesome.

Some games in the list, like Turmoil, could really be great games, but I dislike how they become a hell too fast. Good job.

@markrotondella4689 Laser Gates is great, people don't know it, but it has just 4 stages. I have written a guide for it (and Dragonfire too), you can check at gamefaqs. Atari is really curious, some games become impossible too fast, some we can finish (like Adventure and Megamania - yeah, I beat it), and some we can even play forever, lol. I can play Asteroids and Mouse Trap, for example, as long as I want, and will never lose, I need to give up. Oh, another cool games I have not seen been mentioned reading the comments, but If you don't know, you could try: Commando Raid and Megaforce.
