Removing the dash isn't difficult following Bentley procedures. Replacing the blower motor which is inside the air box would be a good DIY video. New FEBI/BILSTEIN blower motors are around $50. The blower motor shaft rides on bushings, not bearings. Good opportunity to replace the heater core and the fan speed resistor. You will need specific VW clips to put the air box halves back together as the OEM box is heat welded at the factory and you have to split it for access. Make notes, or photo the cable and air duct routings. GoWesty has a video showing how to heat and deform a part of the air box to better accommodate newer longer stereo head units. I didn't do this, but I see the benefit and no operational downside to the modification. VW designed a break-away steering column as a safety feature. I can't verify this, but I believe the 'hard to remove' conical bolts holding the steering column bracket are engineered as break-away bolts. that is, break away during a crash to allow the column to collapse when subjected to a certain impact forces. I have not found OEM replacement bolts (and probably could not properly install them) so back together with ordinary bolts. You can do it.

LDA means Ladedruckanreicherung which means something like boost charge enrichment. It’s needed on charged diesel engines in order to compensate for the added air charge that’s entering the cylinder.

Just curious - Were you getting an error code? If so, was it two flashes..? (listed as F2 - No Flame in the manuals) My current problem is that.. It ignites, but not every time and it cannot seem to sustain combustion...leading to it stopping and flashing twice. I do not mind the disassembly and cleaning (actually looking forward to it), but mine is on a boat and getting to it, disengaging all the lines, etc., and then removing it from it's mounting spot is a supreme biotch.. and reinstallation will not be any easier... and it is in the middle of Winter... :(

@@davidhuckstep9703 is it? Wing window was free and took no trips to anywhere to plan. No ordering a part and waiting. I have a wing window, I don’t have a slim Jim kit, and being as these builds take place hundreds of miles from home- what’s your suggestion here? Since you would have done it differently- how would you have gotten the slim Jim kit delivered in an hour or less to this location for free, the way we did with the window?

The more I view these videos the more I like the idea of owning a bus more than actually owning one. My E 350 ford camper requires an oil change and tires once and a great while. Sadly no waves I guess I have to be content with 300,000 miles without a repair. But man a westy would look awesome in my driveway.

Given the colour and polish history, the Doka may be delivered by GENEX to the GDR. The GDR hadn't enough BARKAS vans for the small private owned handyman businesses. So they could purchase a Vanagon (all body types) for a lot of eastgermany's Ostmark. After the german reunion those cars sometimes went further east to poland or the baltic states

What works great as a general cleaner for the undercarriage is simple green and hot water. Pop that in a power washer system. Smells good, degreases and just eats away grime. Safe for the metal surfaces won’t eat rubber off. It’s also pretty good on interior surfaces.

just wondering what your opinion would be.... having a few different brand of vehicles with rear drum brakes. should the correct operation be to engage the parking brakes every time you park so the rear brake is kept tight? i dont do that all the time but never had to adjust my rear brakes in 10+ yrs so far....
