Hey Chris! I just saw a video that I believe would be an amazing VTH reaction. You may have been recommended/seen it, but it's called "The Problem With the USA's Borders" by Atlas Pro. It's total gem, his best video IMO...but I have no doubt you would take to another level.

The first time I heard the story about Catherine the great and the horse was actually on a episode of the big bang theory. The show presented it as fact given that it was told by Amy, one of the smart characters.

lol it’s criminal he puts FDR and Obama towards the bottom. Actually laughable. I largely don’t disagree with most of his list, but FDR and Obama should be closer to the top. FDR S-Tier no question and Obama S-Tier imo, but to appease some, A-Tier. His foreign policy was atrocious and although I like the idea Obamacare was supposed to be, it was horribly executed. His race policies were also kinda pretty controversial too, but his overall economics were fantastic, his rhetoric on domestic policy was fantastic, his civility, his ability to critically think, communicate and analyze on the fly while being presidential was nearly unmatched by any president in US history. He defeated Syrias ISIS within his presidency, defeated Osama Bin Laden. It’s just laughable he’s put at F tier. Trump is a solid B Tier. He wasn’t fantastic but he wasn’t awful either. I feel like he’s the polar opposite of Obama when it comes to intelligence. I actually wonder sometimes if Donald even has a brain…

Biblical archeology over the last century has proven or at least give credence to quite a bit in the Bible. Biblical minimalists try to write out of history of the existence of David and his line well until the 7th century in the common era. And yet we found evidence of David himself. So I would take the position of the minimalists with the same skepticism that they would hold for the Bible.

I would have explained that during period the political parties were reversed. Reps were liberal and Dems were conservative. Not sure why those references even matter for the video.

Actually the paradox of movement is a rather intelligent thought experiment. Because it proves that there is in fact not an infinite number of subdivisions. Which is actually a REALLY important concept for physics. That was horrible take on your part, and Diogenes of course never understands the point of philosophy to begin with. Diogenes is just a town drunk that people pretend was a philosopher.

Not to start a feud just pointing out observations. George Washington story being easily fake due to people writing it down years after everyone involved had pasted away, but Bible is fact. Again no hate and I do not wish for a faith argument just pointing out an observation.

Half of these entries should be is this Bible entry real (half would leave the video less interesting but there is so much there to question). Did Jesus walk on water? Did he rise from the dead? Did he perform miracles? Some of the Bible entries seem to have legit evidence but miracles? Um no. Let’s not just pick on The Bible, same goes for the Quran. Once again we can find some evidence of Muhammad’s exploits like conquering territory (which I wouldn’t count against him…everyone did the same thing) But did Muhammad spilt the moon in half (no btw)? The Quran says ,”There is no compulsion in religion,” which if just left at that would be great. Then it says to fight and kill unbelievers (which amazingly is still carried out today by those that have committed apostasy whether government sanctioned or just an evil mob or less harshly, a family abandoning their relative). So which is it? I know this last one deviates from the topic a bit but I cannot simply stand by and just criticize Christianity since I was raised with it and know it better but then skip over Islam (or anything else) out of fear of Islamophobia claims. I criticize any and all claims that are not backed by true evidence and will never be silenced or scared into submission to do otherwise. Yes, you can interpret religious texts in different ways and what this one thing meant back then means something different now (also mistranslation can be an issue, more with the Bible than the Quran) but still, if they are supposed to be literally true, the conflicting statements show me they are literally written by men with different opinions, perspectives, conflicting memories of events (if they even witnessed said events) and different agendas.

The Halifax Explosion is really interesting, and sad, to look into. It was the biggest explosion before the creation of the atomic bomb. One boat highly explosive collides with another ship highly inflammable. There's a crazy story about Vince Coleman who was a train dispatcher. He started to run away with a coworker but he remembered that a train was incoming. He went back and alerted it at the cost of his life, but at least the train safely stop. Many cities around helped Halifax in various way, not only from Canada but the USA too. Not only is it hard to find survivors in the rubbles, but an intense blizzard sets in the same night... Sad but fascinating event that was an indirect repercussion from the war.

I recognize that you called out your bias first, but I find it fascinating that earlier you said you question any secondary source written long after an event, but you do not hold the Bible to the same standards.

So Blue from Overlysarcastic Productions brings up a good idea about the salting of Carthage in their History of Rome video on the Roman Republic. Rome had a tradition where to declare war, they would stab a spear into enemy ground. And if enemy ground happened to be far away, they had a patch of dirt from that place to stab said spear into. He brings up that if the salting of Carthage did happen, they most likely salted the ceremonial patch of dirt. But he also said it's entirely speculative, I just thought it was a good idea to bring up.

35:10 Another thing is that we look back on the stock market crash with hindsight as to what came next. No one in October 1929 would have known just how bad it would get and the market actually recovered for a time in 1930. It was only the acceleration of the bank failures in the later half of 1930 into 1931 that tipped the country into what would become known as the Great Depression.

Chris, after Simon took a near lost cause hatchet job to Abraham Lincoln in last month's video, "Historical Events that Didn't Happen Like You Think", I find it hard to see side projects in a positive light. It may not be razorfist level bad, but it is very cringe. Its a shame, because I have become very fond of his "decoding the unknown channel".

While Einstein was very good with math, when it came to the physics that he was researching he still need assistance from other mathematicians on occasion who were more experienced in a particular line of mathematics than him. It could be that this gave some people the idea that he wasn't very good with math.

If there is one I've definitely missed it, but how have you two not done a video together? You could do one on his channel focused on a topic you know more about than he does so it's kind of a learning from the guest situation, can clear up some misconceptions 1 of you may have of said event and so on, and vice versa on your channel.

@VloggingThroughHistory Ah, must have overlooked the livestreams when I checked. Probably watched one of them before and don't remember it entirely now that you have mentioned it. I'll have to go take a look at them now. Keep up the great work you do. Been a massive military history fan since I was younger, so always cool to see other people's take on things. Especially the smaller details that no one I would talk to about them know about. Not 100% sure if you've done a video on the type of topic or if any good put together video about the topic exist on KZbin (Some exist but I don't know about quality). Biggest Military Blunders could be a cool topic to look at. Like an example would be the gate left open at Constantinople exploited by the Turks. In the grand scheme of things, the lack of troops and even civilians likely would have resulted in the fall of the city regardless as the empire had declined rapidly over the previous 2 centuries. But the gate being left open certainly sped that along. There's plenty of others such as the Romans at the Battle of Cannae so there would definitely be a wealth of knowledge to learn about some of the topics or expand on.

I think the idea of the 'einstein failing maths' story is to discredit his abilities because a lot of scientists at the time viewed general and special relativity to be obviously untrue, and today some people say that einstein plagiarised a lot of his ideas. I think the truth is that he was a brilliant mind and he contributed a lot but a lot of the things he gets credit for were actually the result of many scientists including him.

So, I know it's a quibble, but wrt "no taxation without representation", you should know as well as I do that England actually said American colonists were represented in parliament, even though they hadn't voted for their representative. So the phrase was always more about efficacy than representation. It's about choice. Yes, you're still represented if you can't vote, and yes you're still represented if you vote for a candidate who loses the race, but in the latter you at least got a chance to choose, even if the person you liked didn't win. It's the ability to make a choice that matters.

6:06 But there WAS a silver dollar in the colonial era. It was the Spanish 8 reales coin, known as the "piece of eight" or "Spanish dollar" (because of its similarity to the Joachimsthaler or "thaler" then popular in Europe). This coin was so widely circulated in the New World that it, rather than the British pound, was chosen as the basis for United States currency.

Truth about the Einstein story was that Einstein tried to get into the Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland a year early. He did poorly in French. The head of the school arranged for Einstein to stay with a friend of his in Italy to be tutored in French. He passed the entrance exam the next year.

I was shocked earlier when I found out that the 1900s Canadian Indian Christian school mass graves that were found in 2021 was a fake story. The tribal chief made a statement saying no bodies have been found or evidence of mass deaths at these schools. I was absolutely certain it was true Now this isn’t to say nothing like this happened, but even today things get twisted and things are written down without the full facts, the ancient times were no different.
