I skate at a huge hockey facility with 3 rinks… but it doesn’t have any pretty views and it feels very different

Yes, but also a LOT of skaters and hockey events/leagues. So, yes and no. I end up practicing at 6 am most days. I’m a beginner skater, but I can do some higher level skills because of my gymnastics background… it’s not a super safe combination and I need some extra space right now in case if I wipe out 😅

Haha how funny!! If you're in a skating club you usually have set lessons within a group, the club usually organises stuff and you're able to join competitions (I don't think you can join any without a club) you pay a monthly fee and with a private coach you don't have a club with members and you have to organise everything yourself, schedule lessons and so on.. 🙈

Thank you. We have a private coach, two actually, because my school and holiday schedule is pretty tough. That’s why I had to quit gymnastics this year. I can’t always meet when the team meets. I would love to belong to a skating club (and eventually will have to to compete), but I would have to keep doing the 6am privates either way 🌔🫣🌖

This is so great, i've gotten my own pair of skates after skating in rentals about 6 times, im 14 yrs old, i've used them 3 times and its great. I have the jackson elles, i can only go once a week due to how far it is but ive taught my self the waltz jump and backwards crossovers just last weekend. May i ask, Firstly, how often do you skate, how much off ice practise do you do, and do you have any tips? Have a lovely day xx

That's cool!! I wouldn't recommend to try teaching yourself tho because of the risk of learning stuff wrong - relearning is exhausting! Maybe try taking one lesson and as long as you can't take new lessons learn what you were taught in the lesson you had already. At the moment I don't skate at all, I go to skating camps because my rink is closed for summer break. Off ice 3x/week at the moment :) The skating camp for example is the next 4 days each day 3x50min on ice and 1x60min off ice 😊 I'm currently editing my video on what to do in EXACTLY your case, it will be uploaded next week or in two weeks probably (depending on how much I have to edit) 💗 Have a great day too ❤️

I’m also 14, and I must say you shared this so maturely! My biggest issue is to not beat myself up/get frustrated quickly (I taught myself and ended up rotating the wrong way and it’s frustrating re-learning jumps + spins on my other leg), and probably social anxiety! I really want a coach but I’ve held off months being to shy to email them, and talk to people at my rink. You’re my new inspiration, I wish you well on the rest of your skating journey! 🫶

I started learning figure skating at the age of 11 and I’ve been continuing it since then, but the problem is I don’t have a ice rink close by. I only have one which I go to, but I can go only once a week. What should I do?

I've never been in that situation, I can not give professional advice but just some tips ☺️ Maybe try implementing off ice jump training, spinner training, inline artistic and go to the ice rink whenever you can or try artistic roller skating or artistic inline skating if it's more convenient for you 🫶🏻🫶🏻

@@Juzofy. let's say I don't think anybody can afford it, it's still not as expensive that a person with an average income can't pay for it. Well it's summer training, so I'm not on ice - it's not as expensive as training in winter and it's way less than I train in winter. In summer it's just the camps that cost lungs and heart.
