Host should practise listening skills more, and try to understand what the guest speaker is saying rather than having a racing mind blurting out whatever.

This host is super annoying...didn't get Janina's jokes , and a very curt way of interrupting Janina frequently.

I really appreciate this "Clearing Space Backwards Practice" for when people are feeling quite dysregulated. It's so gentle and respectful. I especially appreciated the way Jan beautifully modeled maintaining a slightly averted Gaze. Such an important consideration, especially in these times of ZOOM, to help provide more of the Space needed for the person Focusing to be able to maintain a greater sense of Safety, especially when they have come from a more severe background of trauma...Lovely!

Just a suggestion...if you turn the volume on your Computer all the way up, and also turn the audio control on the Video (the "speaker" icon at the bottom left of the Video, to the right of the play button, that may help you hear better. hope that helps!

Thank you for sharing this. I know I have got trauma after a long life in and out of treatments for addiction. I believe drugs at a point saved my life. And as G Mate say, it is a symptom of a pain from trauma. So I do not know which trauma to address, feels like it is many many in my body and mind. After working with this, yoga/ meditation and awareness focus throughout the day my life is much more stable. But, the pain… fysical pain from years in activation is escalating rapidly it seems. So I must admit I wonder if this is to expect after my life. And to think otherwise is to believe in Santa. Anyway, huge hug from Norway and also thumbs up. Really nice to see the development is positive within this field 🙏🏻🤗

What an awesome, insightful and open share of Annette's journey! I can also relate to the fired-up/fun part being able to hurt others/get myself in trouble - still want to explore this more deeply. Analysing/rationalizing part I see as more of a protector in fight/flight, when in a fully collapsed state not even those protective cognitive processes are online (smth like a shut down of a frontal lobe functioning in trauma). And an appeasing/fawning part as a "manager" possibly in a more of a fight state, when it's not a real attuned social connection - so not really ventral - but still an interaction from an inauthentic/unattuned place (like manipulating, taking advantage of sb, passive aggressiveness might also be). And really loved the concept of smth being alive = being able to move on its own (cause it is when I don't feel that I can move, I don't feel fully alive) Thank you 💛

I was delighted to discover your work via the Holistic recovery summit! You asked Stephen there about blended states, and especially trancelike state (that happens in addictions, and body focused repetitive behaviors as kind of immobilized zoning out) as one that can be numbing but also spiritual/transcendental experience - as in meditation. The difference between those two are not completely clear to me, but I'm eager to dive into your work more, thank you🙏

Hello, 🐝🪲🐞🐼🐨🐦🐦May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

15 years ago this ifs therapy came into my life from my own inner voice. I was in a situation where i was forced by an inner sensation to accept the pain i was in. I did and parts of me where creating space around me. I heard a voice and i did not know where this voice came from. But i began to understand that it was the self. It gave me all these insights Dick is talking about. I know for sure this is excactly the best approach to heal people from trauma. The best of the best. My trauma was healed also with ifs only without the knowledge that dr Schwartz also had these insights of different parts . I found out about his books 2 months ago. Strange thing also was... alanis morrisette her music played a big role in my life 25 years ago. I always had the feeling she had the same struggles in life as i was having at that time... two months ago i opend the book and alanis wrote a foreword for his book...

I have been in recovery for 40 years and I have never accepted the addiction is a disease. Especially because I did my own research. It’s refreshing to listen to your podcast. And it’s truly amazing that a friend sent me this link of the podcast one the exact month that I stopped drinking. My addictive behavior re alcohol has never returned.

Its interesting having worked in this healing world for 20 yrs - psychology is a ma nmade industry. They leave out many important facts. For one thing there is no real standard of "normal" yet therapists promote this- where is their standard from?? Second, this world is and always has been a dark, dysfunctional place yet they never mention this truth either. So what are they promoting? Finding balance after trauma is good but lets keep in mind whats really going on in our world and learn to survive based on facts.

Thank you! This was wonderful. Like being in class with you! I was able to get a big breakthrough on a lifetime issue through this exercise just now. I had started doing some work on it in another class earlier today (Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy) with Dr. Howard Schubiner/Dr. Mark Lumley, and this exercise brought in the other half for full breakthrough. I'm so grateful! Blessings ❣

This group is growing in leaps and bounds indicating a hunger for change, for the kind of transformative change that polyvagal theory brings us. The group interacts online in the Polyvagal Institute Community on Mighty Network. Once every few weeks the group meets live on Zoom for an hour of exploration and discussion with a guest presenter.
