When you consider that there are many big knife fighting systems around the world using blades with no guards, the Trailmster's oval guard is actually an improvement. As you pointed out, it's simply not a blade catcher. Great video & collection of Trailmasters!

@JCOwens-zq6fd8 ай бұрын
Technically a machete is a sword. It just happens to be a sword that is also a tool. If one looks to early machete they are the same as swords called hanger/messer. Yes many modern machete are a bit thinner but thats b/c we can make them thinner without them breaking. Whereas before this was much harder to achieve.

Excalibur makes excellent crossbows, I own 7 Excalibur's including the Exomax. My 2 favorites are my Bulldog 400 & Matrix 380. I do own a Micro 340TD but I prefer the Matrix & Bulldog series better. I also own a Wicked Ridge Invader 400 with Full Acudraw & a Centerpoint Wrath 430, but I prefer my Excalibur's.

I have an Albion Destroyer as well as the one from Windlass and I can stay unequivocally that the Windlass version has hilt components made of pot metal, not bronze. If it were bronze that sword would not be $300. It would be far more. So many parts of that sword are subpar if you know what to look for. Also while the handle of the Albion is made from stabilized birch, the Windlass version is literally a hollow metal tube, far from being suitable for a sword handle.

Hi Erik. I wanted you to see. I'm 75% complete with the Atlantean Scabbard Replica. Like to know your input please. I have the Bronze Fittings and Coyote Pelt added. I will be making it as identical as I can to the movie prop. Please let me know if I should change anything? Or add anything? Really appreciate your input Brother. I just put up the short video 75% complete.

One thing that still baffles me is this assumption among many people that US blades are by definition better than "foreign" made blades? Just the mention that a knife blade was made in, say, Japan would instantly attract the comment that it is in some way "inferior"! [Note: I am NOT referring to you here, but rather many of the KZbinrs,] Is this not just a tad arrogant, in the absence of definite and verifiable evidence that this is so? Specifically, in the case of the Trail Master, the San Mai III version of the knife is truly a seriously superior blade, forged in the laminated method in Jap[an, and which performs exceptionally well. Here on KZbin one can view a video demonstrating the most incredible feats of edge-retention and cutting ability, and also strength. Here they actually bend a Trail Master blade to 40 degrees before it eventually breaks. This required a 4 ft long metal pipe to enable the necessary leverage to effect the bend! That is pretty impressive by any standard. To date I have not found a similar set of tests done with a US made Trail Master blade, and I believe such a comparison would be instructive, and possibly defeat my argument. There are many "foreign" manufacturers that make really good blades (eg Falkniven) similar to the TM. Cheers Erik!

Hi Erik, I just received the Bronze Scabbard Fittings. I made a very short video showing only the fittings on my sword. I'm getting ready to build the Scabbard. Already have the perfect fur picked out. Just need to find leather straps to wrap and tie to the fur. Take a look. I think maybe you will like. I'm trying to get as close as I can to the entire movie prop. Using a Silver Marto Conan Atlantean. Only until I get the Albion Version like yours. Would greatly appreciate your input. I was going to go with the Lambskin Fur. But it's too dark and too thick. So I will be going with the coyote fur instead. It's hard to match the exact color of the Coyote fur.

I didn't think the trailmaster is ready for big knife fighting system. The guard is too small and the back cut isn't sharp. But the cold Steel Frontier for exemple is a real fighting bowie.
@Erik1970Viking Жыл бұрын
Hi Rex, thanks for your input, and i understand why you think so - yes, the Trailmaster guard is a bit small, so maybe just a "blade stopper" but no "blade catcher". In his Comtec Videos, James Keating recommends the Trailmaster a lot, maybe due to lack of affordable alternatives in the 80s .. The Hells Belle ist lighter and faster and has a real blade catcher. - Nonetheless, i like the Trailmaster a lot. The point geometry is really really cool for direct forward thrusts. - Regarding the newer CS models, like the Natches and Laredo, i am somewhat bit sceptical due to this cable-tang design in the grip. Bit the Frontier surely must be a good massive one. Maybe slightly too heavy ?? do not know, i have not handled a frontier so far. But i guess the frontier is similar to the SVÖRD von-Tempsky Bowie, which i adore, and which is beefy and heavy. - Cheers, Erik

Erik, I don't know if you received my message on KZbin before? The company that makes the custom made 100% Scabbard Fittings website is this. I just purchased the set. They only produce a few every few years. I reached out to them. Trying very hard to get my entire Sword and Scabbard to be and look exactly like the one in the movie. I think you will find this very very intriguing. Here's how you can take your Albion Original Conan Atlantean Sword to the level of perfection. I hope you take a look. The company asked me if I know anyone that may be looking for the Bronze Fittings. Because they are going to stop producing them. I told the owner, that I'd let People who own Albion Original Conan Atlantean Sword owners know. You are the only guy I know of, that has the Albion Version. Please don't delete the link. It's an Albion link. But I will give you the link to this company. They too are in the UK like you. I hope you like it Brother. myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.35528.html todcutler.com/en-us/products/conan-atlantean-scabbard-fittings?variant=7346238095409&smid=0f06fc92-1f81-4a72-9ce2-9a8dab1d50d9&empi=553708388401&epi=7346238095409

Yeah Jody Sampson worked on my atlantean sword before he passed away. I don't know what I'll end up doing with it probably end up giving it to a relative. Was really cool getting what I said about the sword published in their book about the atlantean. Finally picked up the father's sword, I was kind of surprised about it, I was expecting the guard to be more solid. $4000.00 price tag, probably will never sell it. I've got an Excalibur sword. It's going to 5160 spring steel blade. Surprisingly the atlantean sword is easier to hold than the Excalibur is. I suppose it's the distal taper. The Excalibur sword doesn't have any it makes the blade heavy.

Hi Buddy, thank you, i guess i understand what you mean - the "surgical steel" that Gerber used on these blades might me a rust-resistant steel.. today, we know INFI and Carbon V - up to the early 80's, Gerber did probaby a good job, and as far as i have heard, they did proper heat treating on these blades ...
