A dam up river controlled the water flow from the creek. It would fill up at night, then open during the day at a consistent rate throughout the day. I believe they had 4 weeks worth of water behind the dam without a creek flow. Winter ice did make things very difficult according to the records.

Germany shut down their nuclear plants and replaced them with windmills and solar panels. As a result Germany now has some of the highest electricity prices in the world.

Similar - we skipped the 11. We also use the creator kit with microphone. The sound seems to be much better and the mic on the kit cuts the wind/movement noise.

@@RestlessViking yeah the sound is great.

Great video! I live in Kalamazoo and have bicycled the trail many times. The Kal-Haven Trail now connects with the Kalamazoo Valley Trail all the way to downtown Kalamazoo, right by the college's campuses. While going east on the trail is very slightly uphill, it is an elevation change from 653 ft above sea level to 784 ft spread over more than 30 miles. Barely noticeable. A lovely, easy 2 day trip is to go one way, stay the night, then come back the next day. 33 miles on a bike is accessible to just about everyone, and leave plenty of time to stop along the way and enjoy the sights.

And don’t forget if you’re up in the UP in February, stop in Trenary between Escanaba and Marquette along US41 and check out the Outhouse races!!

Also, in Escanaba, the House of Ludington, just past Gus is the hotel with a light beacon on top of it. They still have a room that has been left in disarray from Al Capone. He had a secret doorway that went up there as a lookout, and there’s tunnels under the building that sprawl out under the surrounding area (I’ve been in them just under the building), allegedly at least one went out towards the lake for a quick getaway. Another tunnel went to a nearby house as well.

Hey Escanaba!! My hometown, born and raised and family still live there!! If you guys ever go back to Munising area and would like a shipwreck adventure, there’s a 130ft wood scooner named “Bermuda” you can clearly see from the surface of Murray Bay on the southern end of Grand Island.

Checked most of the comments before I dropped this here, but they wanted to build a nuke plant in MC but people organized against it. I believe the cooling tower had already been delivered, so they utilized it with the coal plant.

I was going to school at WMU and my roommates and I were in the backyard of the house we rented in the student "ghetto" when the sirens went off. The hill from East Campus was between us and the path of the tornado so our neighborhood got very little damage. I hopped on my bike and when downtown afterwards and Bronson Park, one of my favorite places in town, lost so many trees and looked so different after it was cleaned up.

Great video! Made me have a little less disdain for Shitcago as I always called it (late for a few events because of being stuck in traffic far longer than necessary, way longer than necessary going through customs in the stinky basement of O'Hare, and hitting a deer JUST outside the city limits). That NYE jacket is spectacular BTW!! Plus the Polkaholics seem pretty rad.

Whiting is an enclave of something you can't discuss in public and has maintained a long-standing side-eye to the rest of the Calumet Region. I'm not sure if it's still like it was back in the old days, but you have to hope it's changed. We all love pierogis, but the Asians have yaki Mandu and many other cultures have their own version of it. Always thought Whiting was home to the Armenians.

I can't believe Daily got away with destroying Meigs Field. The city should have payed for repairs and Daily should have gone to jail. It was the model of what cities need for air transportation in congested areas. I am glad I got to fly there at least once. It was a federally funded airport and could not have been legally closed with out federal approval.
