Good times training with those guys. I trained there for over a year until I hurt my knee and COVID. Good place. They did a lot of newaza there. Most days we started with newaza before doing any stand up. I saw a bit of the 1000 man ippon battle or whatever it was. I spoke very little Japanese so just grasped bits. I think not everyone there attempts 1000 ippons but it is like an all day event yet not super intense fighting.

I might have, a lot of Judo guys came through to the BJJ gym I was training at, but likely they were just regular kodokan style.

Smooth, controlled rolls. I love the technical movements and your clear explanations of them. I remember watching this video a couple of years ago, and it went a long way toward adding the rolling Kimura to my game. Thanks for sharing!

No blue Gi at all? Is that coincidence or a Kodokan thing? I have been to the Kodokan myself but well before blue Gis were even used in Judo.

talk about expense?? its expensive when a tooth is lying on the ground and you're over 35 Year s of age. getting a dental repair could mean and extraction and a dental implant where it can cost 2000 plus to secure on tooth 150-200 is not a high price in comparison

I have been using OSS since I was a kid in the 80s in our karate dojo. Our Sensei was a very traditional Japanese Sensei and it was the way we did things. Great video. I’ve been wondering the differences myself for a while.

In fact saying OUS is a bit of a myth almost like saying "for shizzle my nizzle" because if you actually took a time machine back to the street in the 90's n said " fo shizle ma nizzle" nobody on the scene would have had a clue what you are talking about. Likewise the first time I heard "ous" was from a comic book collector type guy, it wasnt in a dojo at all.

I was let down, and its a shame because the world is so detailed and rich. I'm not a nationalist, so this stuff doesn't scare me. We should have gotten a good character drama about life in a world ruled by Japan and Germany, and the Axis having an alternate Cold War. The Germans in this show are too cartoony that its hard to watch. Japanese citizens who make home in the west coast seem to be treating Americans with some level of respect, but of course we need more scenes of Japanese soldiers gunning people down for no reason. First episode Juliana's sister Trudy is killed by Japanese soldiers, in the beginning Juliana is just living her life with no prejudice, its thrown away right in the beginning of the show. We could have gotten a unique show with character development. Instead we got some half baked resistance show with magic alternate reality powers.
