I have the G3 cat cam in our nursery as well. I also have the Cube (Pro model). However, I'm not familiar with either the camera's ability to see if the window is open? Or the "do something whenever the cube is being held" trigger on the cube... can you say more?

The camera can’t sense when the windows are open but it has a motion sensor. It watches the room to detect motion (the crib is out the way). The cube has several triggers. From what my friend mentioned, one of the triggers is detecting when it’s held.

So litterly if my u200 doorlock work great not via the m3 hub , and i connect the u200 via m3 and disconnect the internet, the u200 will have control from HA and HK?

So bro, what you've talked about in these two videos are just how to connect the two parts. However in obsd there are ai plugins, in my particular interest the local LLM ones. In which case could also be the powerhouse for the H.A. "mainframe" if you will.

How do you handle putting things INTO the mailbox, for pickup by the mail person? Maybe similar logic for how you exit a door to pick it up, and maybe a 5th state of "Ready"? Looking for advice. Otherwise your Node RED automation is working great for me.

Sending mail isn't something we do personally, so i didn't consider that scenario. I suspect that The existing automation could still work but it the automation states would be fickle becuase it would rely on several assumptions. A more robust solution that comes to mind is having a second sensor that is always closed until the red mail flag is turned out. This would set the sensor to open which would indicate that the mail person had not come and that your mail is still in the mailbox. When the mail man come they will move the flag back into place which closes the sensor, and sets your state to delivered. This solution isn't the most applicable as there are many different styles of mailboxes which makes this difficult but that would give the best experience without anybody having to change their habits.

With the change node you can also set and get these variables without having to write code in a function node

Yup! the change node is dope. The the function node is powerful, it isn't for everyone.

This has definitely at least revived my desire to do an announcement script which targets the speaker nearest someone! I already do something similar where we get a summary announcement when I run the good night script, which tells me if I forgot to load the washing machine, plug in my car, left any windows open etc 👌

Interesting to compare this to my setup. My mailbox is easily 100 feet away from the house. However, I must have gotten lucky because the Zigbee sensor I use (SmartThings original Multi-Purpose sensor) inside the metal mailbox works great, and is able to mesh through the Hue bulbs I have on the front porch. Battery life in the winter is awful though - 2-3 weeks on a CR2450. You might get mileage out of zigbee or zwave meshing out to your mailbox using various wired things like outdoor lights, garden lights, etc.

I've heard of some folks getting some crazy awesome ranges from their zigbee devices. Unfortunately, i'm not one of them 😒 Otherwise this project would have been easier and cheaper for me. But I am glad I found out about LoRa sensors 😁

"Hi! Thank you so much for the video! Could you perhaps explain the step of how you go from rtsp localhost to the ip-address? I'm stuck on that part... Thank you!"
@technithusiast
@technithusiast 7 күн бұрын
Ah, If it's what i think you're referring to, I believe i replaced the "localhost" of the rtsp link with the ip-address of the NAS. This will vary greatly depending on your network setup which is why i didn't show it.

Great question. There are several use cases: - Automations that require you to remember a state and revert back at some later time - automations that require you to keep track of several things and combine them - automations that need to remember things If you want to see an example that would require you to save state check out this video: technithusiast.circle.so/c/backroom-content/turn-your-to-do-list-into-a-smart-home-voicemail

A simpler and less powerful way to do this is to “wait for trigger” in Home Assistant.
@technithusiast
@technithusiast 14 күн бұрын
The Wait For trigger works well if you want to only keep track of a single message.

Automation 2 would have serious WAF points. Where did I leave the keys? What time did dear teenager child take out the trash? Checking the sink before firing off automations to remind someone of their chores before bedtime...

In NodeRed you can also create/set/recall local and global variables, that don’t go away when NodeRed or HA is restarted.
@geejayem59
@geejayem59 15 күн бұрын
There is a 'variable' integration available in HACS that allows you to store and use values. Can be set to restore value or not when HA is restarted and the entity can be displayed like any other in the UI. Can be manually set using a service call and also allows setting from a template or an SQL query but I haven't used those so not sure how it works

Hey. DId you found solution for automate dimmer in Your lights? I`m using WLED DIY LEDs and my goal is turn on light as a dimmer, from dark to really bright. I know there`s a preset but it`s not work as i wish. I`ve tried search and do it by myself but i i didn`t achieved that:(

One issue i have with scenes and saving multiple state lighting is that it doesn't accurately reflect the state of the lights if the saved state of the scenes is off when it reloads them.

You can define a context store that saves to the file system. This is persistent even after reboot etc. Default context Store is memoryOnly but it very easy to configure the file system based store. If you take a look at your config file the details are in the standard configuration file just commented out.

2 other native home assistant ways I thought of: - Using a trigger template sensor - Setting and referencing variables within a single script or automation
@AhrenBaderJarvis
@AhrenBaderJarvis 16 күн бұрын
Things comparable to context though? Nothing that I can think of. States and helpers match the global and persistent aspects, while variables match the flexible data type functionality.

Don't forget you can use MQTT for this as well. Simple send the state to it and make it permanent, then even after a reboot of either, that information would be available. In fact, it's one of my favourite ways of doing it and I use it for lots of things.
