A couple of weeks ago I was wondering if integrating notion and HA (I use both A LOT) possible, and if so, how would it be useful. This looks incredibly promising!

much appreciated, thank you. I use a NUC for Home Assistant and a Mac mini for Docker Desktop. Recently I learned form the channel Jim‘s Garage about diun to get notified if there is an update for a docker image available. My goal is to combine this notification with your tutorial about webhooks, so I receive the notification first in Home Assistant as my center of information. From there I could relais this message to Telegram or different endpoints. Still in the confused phase but I don‘t give up so fast. Hesitate to learn about Postman as well but if it has to be….

Definitely going to try this out. I've tried using the home assistant lists and tasks but it's clunky and I needed some other way to manage my notes. I guess you've caused me to spend another 4 hours trying to figure out something else. But thanks again haha

I'd be interested in knowing how you've set up your labels vs your categories. I had notification categories in my automations then realized that the primary use for some automations was devices so they fit more under a device category however those automations also included notifications so maybe notifications should be labels i thought. Now I'm all messed up and in need of a better naming scheme lol

The custom sensor is super useful... I'm all in on Node-red... I've been burnt a couple of times with custom integrations... so I try to avoid them. Have you ever tried a sensor created via MQTT. I have a flow that will create and publish the discovery message...

Loving your content! It’s no wonder LLMs cannot calculate. They’re language models. It’s not a calculator. There is a way to be able to do the calculations yourself using LangChain. LangChain is an awesome framework for many programming languages providing additional tools like a way to call local functions. Earlier this year I have been playing with LangChain4J and Ollama and got some awesome results. Seems to me it should be able to do budget calculations as well. Or maybe do the calculations before hand and let the LLM just create some meaningful text message based on the result.

I love your videos. You have such a unique way of showing things in terms of you passion and realism that is more than enthusiasm. You have helped me to consider options for my Home Assistant. Some one said to me “if I want to turn a light on and off I’ll reach for the switch” and you have given a way to explain that a smart home is so much more than that Please don’t stop! I’ll admit sometimes I have to go away and try and learn allot of new stuff, but that’s good and then I come back and watch a video again and see a ton of options. How to make them happen, well that’s a different story, but I’m learning slowly how to. I have one idea that I never thought was possible for me to do, but I am learning so I can give it a go. Thank you. Your content is awesome and always thought provoking. Rob

My latest Resful sensors were to make some docker containers as switches. Now my pc I use for AI can be WOL turn on the containers I need and shut it down from home assistant. With proxmox integration. And I click on the containers to open the web urls, it's just nice having everything in one place. 😀

Hi. You should absolutely look at the Grafana add on. I did something similar in NR to pull data from a website that tracks some information of mine, but instead of using a sensor, I push the data into a MariaDB database (another add on, managed with phpMyAdmin). Grafana has graphics that are much more capable (imho) than HA cards. And, I use notifications to tell me when new data is added.

Small suggestion for the audio announcement: round off to 0 decimals, 46% is much easier to listen to and understand than 45.68%, as you yourself already noted. And thanks for the suggestion about Actual, since I live in the EU, we have the PSD2 regulation which requires banks to open up their API so I hope Actual can actually talk to it without major issues. However, since I've worked in the financial sector I do know this is probably going to be a difficult one and this is also the reason why I've never before looked into this before hahah PCI-DSS + ISO27001 compliance is something I want to forget xD

It's been a while since I've watched much KZbin. Happened to open KZbin tonight and saw your latest video. Caught my eye because I am a lazy user of Home Assistant and have been watching my budget with YNAB, recently looked at Actual Budget as an alternative, and have both a professional and personal interest in AI. These things coupled with remembering how much I enjoyed your videos in the past made me back up and find the other two videos leading into this one. Your subject matter is right up my alley....waaaay above my head...but I'm in the realm where I can follow along and appreciate all the tech involved. That said...I just had to drop you a comment because I LOVE your humor and cinematography. You present a lot of great information and you do it with interesting shots and laying out a story in an easy to follow and entertaining way. There is always something in your videos that causes me to chuckle out loud. Unga bunga! Just dropping you this note to let you know I really enjoy your videos. Now I'm going to have to go back to where I left off and get caught up on your back catalog! Keep up the awesome content!

Awesome work! Glad you got it working. Only when I read your blog I figured out that it was like a failed login type message you get sometimes from home assistant and you wern't actually being hacked. :) Im going to do something similar. But I think the easiest way if your bank has it, set up transaction email notifications. I do the same for when a package arrives and home assistant reads my emails. :D

Loved this series! I was also thinking about pairing budgeting with ai in home Assistant, but I really appreciate the exposure to your entire thought process from idea to execution. I was thinking of starting smaller, like a calendar overview with ai, maybe trying to mix in work applications to see if I could be more productive. Keep em coming!

I think you've convinced me to finally pull the plug and set up Actual and migrate all my budget tracking to it. I've tried to start several times, but the pain of having to categorize all the transactions just killed all the joy. I've been running a Windows VM for years just to keep running an old version (like 13+ years old-the last, good, offline version) of Quicken (where the QFX files come from) because I haven't liked any of the online options or don't trust that they're going to keep my data safe or that after a couple of years of making me pay a subscription to use them that they won't just (like with Mint) shut down the service. I've had no real drive to replace Quicken because I've been using it for 20+ years and it has all the reports and historical data I've built over time. The main drawback is that the WAF is not very high due to it only being accessible over an RDP session from the right VLAN in my home network. With what you've worked out here, I can eliminate some of the pain of switching over and can finally accomplish something I've been wanting to do for years; which is generate automatic budget reports that my spouse and I can get daily without having to jump through a lot of hoops to get to. I expect the WAF for this could be huge. Thanks for doing the research. I'm really excited to give this a try. Really enjoyed this series!

8:43 the sensor has a button on it, correct? Could you just set it up that if the mailbox is opened and it’s in the forgotten state, then if it’s either you or your wife, just push the button to reset the status. That way, if it’s not you or your wife, then it will just go to delivered status.

I enjoy your videos, but I'm still not seeing a compelling use case for using an LLM in the smart home. Not at all specific to your stuff, I'm just not seeing it from anyone. I keep watching though. 😀 I could see using it as a voice assistant eventually but so far I haven't been impressed. Stuff like the vacuum is (for me at least) easier, cheaper and more predictable to do as a script. I think the difference is that I don't really want my scripts to "figure it out" because I don't trust GPT to get it right. If I set up an automation with clear rules, it's deterministic which is what I want in almost all of my automations. But keep doing the videos -- maybe you'll convince me at some point.

Well, you'll need to make your own custom model or fine tuned model to do the kind of math you're working with. Math isn't really the llm's goal. You will have to give it the direction of how to perform the functions and formulas you need to work with and load it into the context window or system prompts. There are many kinds of math so that's probably why the base models don't have this ability out of the box.
