7:50 Yes! Tool limitation is good. Only three different pink pens or images from only one news paper can kick start the imagination.

Hey, sorry I have to say this, but please be careful if you are going to use a "free trial" from Sk1ll Shar3. They will charge you an annual price, and the only way to get your money back is to exchange messages with their AI-bot chat.

You inspired me to try and make a mini zine out of an idea I had for just a regular collage! It's turning out so cool I am honestly proud of myself! I've already made five pages, so what's left is just finish the last page and the cover wheeeee!!

At 1:35 is the weirdest coincidence but I’ve binge watched your Channel and just finished making my first zine about why I hate tomatoes called “no no tomatoes” :)

Don't sleep on thrift stores/rummage sales/habitat for humanity! I got my guillotine cutter at a rummage sale for a couple bucks. I find lots of cool paper thrifting. I don't know if everywhere does it but citywide cleanup is a gold mine for collage supplies. People leave things they don't want by the road and the city picks it up like once a week. I have a huge box of national geographic magazines now from just driving around a nearby town. Also so old sewing magazines. It's amazing what people throw out!

I need my draft! It helps my brain to organize things and make my ideas visible :D I also found that my Zine looks very different from the draft - I change things I want to write or include, pictures move around or disappear. I like info zines - so I usually have a slim notebook for one zine. I write down sources and information I want to use, sketch out the page arrangements. Then I will make a small paper version of the zine, where I scribble down layout or sentence placement. All the while adapting, changing and sometimes cursing (because I forgot to note down where that one piece of information came from) 😂 It is a process.

I was just cleaning out my sister’s house. She passed away last year, and we’re still going through her stuff. There was this fairly large format homemade . . . thing . . . about the Chicago Seven-a radical racial justice group that was politically persecuted through the court system back in the 1960s when my sister was in high school and college. It was a ZINE from the 1960s or 70s. Cool! Watching this just made me realize what I was looking at! It is history.

great video! yesterday i felt bad so i worked on a little lyric zine of a song that was stuck in my head all day. i didn't finish it but i ended up feeling a lot better after starting to make said zine. i think another good advice (at least for me) is that if you're scared or intimidated by making a big 3+ page zine or something, start off with a small mini zine and just let your creativity flow (don't worry about how it looks just focus on the feelings). thank you for this :)

Starting off with a mini zine is great advice, thanks for sharing! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better after making a zine. Self publishing truly is a medicine 🌱🌼

This is the only way I can make a zine lmao. If I worried what other people think, I would never do it. I would get stuck in perfectionist mode. So YES. LISTEN TO BRE. Zine is for you, by you!

I've been watching you for uh... a year I believe? You're an inspiration for sure, but I still have to make a zine! I have made a couple before finding about your channel. I don't hate those zines (they were art school projects) but I liked the limited options the professor gave us to make them. I like much better my second zine over the first but it was nice to experiment with that. I have already my tools that I like to use in my sketchbook and I really want to make a zine. I just can't think of what I want to tell, lol. Like you said, I mostly would do it for me, but even with that in mind, I don't know what I wanna tell! And I'm a bit of a perfectionist too so it makes it harder. Either way I enjoy your videos so much! This is the first time I comment, I felt like I should let you know! Keep up the great work Bre! Also, happy new year!

A fictional story is still a message to me! I’ve always been moved by the fictional stories I read and they inspire me in my own life so the fact you’re working on one is exciting. Getting started is the hardest part so be easy on yourself…creating things takes a lot of energy ✨🖍️

May i ask, do you worry with copyright when you do all the collages with magazines for your zines?
