I definitely want to try this, although at the moment one thing I'm unsure about is how well pastel paintings will convert to film negatives. I mainly do monochromatic paintings in green-black, with grey-green highlights. But wanting to try making purple-grey pastels later.

Homeschooling mom here! Thank you for your content! This year my kid is in 8th grade and I was looking for an engaging way to teach ELA and thought, “Oh! Zines!!!” Then I found you here! This is great stuff and you will be helping us out a lot this year! Also, as soon as you mentioned the FedEx stations, I was like, “Yep because they used to be Kinko’s where I used to work!” And then you said you used to work there! Haha!
@brattyxbre12 сағат бұрын
Aww I love that! Yes, I remember when it was kinkos!! By the time I worked there, it was FedEx Office but kinkos was the go-to for my mom when I’d go on errand runs with her to print stuff. I’m happy to hear my content will be useful for you and homeschooling. Let me know if there is anything in particular you’d like a video of 😇 I’ll try to make it for you!

Fanzines really blew up in the late 60s, early 70s with the rise of Star Trek (particularly Spirk shippers) and I think that’s beautiful 😂

Hi Bre, amazing content as always. Not sure if you have mentioned this before but do you have any resources you can point us in the direction of that cover the history of zines?
@brattyxbre15 сағат бұрын
A lot of zine history posted online is a bit infactual as they state they started in the 1930s but they were around as early as 1917, so I used my college’s search engines to do my own research to learn more about zines. I suggest this if you’re in college because you get access to a lot of thesis/studies made by students covering zines, and journals with expansive research done on the medium. If this is not available for you bc you’re not a student, I’d look into some library websites that publish blogs about zines. Book Riot also has some great articles about zine history that a lot of other websites don’t cover 👇🏽 bookriot.com/harlem-renaissance-little-magazines

came here curious about zines but stayed for the algorithm rant because oh my gosh yes THANK YOU. the focus on being authentic and true to you is so real. i have definitely tried to chase the algorithm in the past and it's exhausting and so creatively unfulfilling. also love what you say about how we never know how what we say/create/share will affect others - it's those small moments of inspiration that are so important!

If possible, could you make a video explaining about how to put a “legalese” text into one’s zine? idk what to call it, but it’s a text which tells what’s the zine is about, the zine’s author, etc…

Forgive me if this is somewhere on your social media and I've missed it, but do you have any advice for how to make copies of non-digital/made-by-hand zines? I'm realizing that when I create all the way to the edges, the words or images get cut off in the copying process. I might start pencil-marking the edges at about 1/4" or so before I start making them, but it looks like you just eyeball it, so I'm just curious how you avoid that problem. 😊
@brattyxbre2 күн бұрын
Typically you want to leave 1/4 margin around to avoid cut off, so your instincts are right about that! I eyeball it most times and still lose a bit of my zine in the process but I don’t mind it. It also prints out with white borders which I cut off manually 👇🏽 How I Get Clean Edges on My Zines ✨✂️ kzbin.infox3hf6CgeFu0?feature=share
