State why synchronous motor is not self-starting. List the methods generally used to start synchronous motor.
@learnwithus-electricalengi739018 күн бұрын
A synchronous motor is not self-starting because it requires the rotor to match the synchronous speed of the stator field to generate torque. Starting methods: 1. Damper winding. 2. Auxiliary motor. 3. Induction start. 4. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). 5. DC starter.

Does the current through the voltmeter not become extremely high and voltage drop over the currentmetering tool become extremely high aswell??
@learnwithus-electricalengi739021 күн бұрын
A voltmeter connected in parallel to a high-voltage source but with a low internal resistance would draw significant current, potentially overheating and damaging the voltmeter. Similarly, an ammeter with significant internal resistance in series with a load would cause a noticeable voltage drop, leading to incorrect current measurements and disturbing the circuit. By using tools designed with the proper impedance characteristics for their intended measurement purpose, these issues are avoided

Good morning, please can you explain prony brake torque please, I confuse t(w.l) and (w+w)×l please Explain
@learnwithus-electricalengi739018 күн бұрын
The Prony brake torque formulas differ based on the forces considered: 1. : Considers only the applied weight (). 2. : Includes both the arm's self-weight () and the applied weight (). Use the first when is negligible; use the second when significantly contributes to torque.

@learnwithus-electricalengi7390 Жыл бұрын
CT is used to step down the current by increasing number of turns of the winding. So you can understand accordingly.

When the synchronous motor runs at synchronous speed the voltage induced in the damper winding is????? maximum Minimum 0 ????

@learnwithus-electricalengi7390Ай бұрын
When rotor rotates at the same speed as the rotating magnetic field of the stator, there is no relative motion between the rotating magnetic field and the rotor, including the damper windings. As a result, there is no induced voltage in the damper windings when the motor runs at synchronous speed. However, Damper windings are only used during the starting phase or when the motor operates below synchronous speed to produce a damping torque that helps the motor accelerate to synchronous speed. Once synchronous speed is reached, these windings do not carry any current, and no voltage is induced in them.
