Thank you for this beautiful demonstration! One question: why use the nymphes when the deluge has a powerful internal synth engine? That is a genuine question as i have the Deluge as well and would like to understand your reason for using an external synth instead. Thank you and have a nice day!
@BayMud
@BayMud Күн бұрын
Hey thanks for taking the time. I love the Deluge internal synth engine (and it's only getting better with the community firmware) and almost always use it on its own, but sometimes I want more hands-on control and maybe a different flavour, so I like having little boxes I can use with the Deluge here and there. The Nymphes is ideal for this (to me), as it's small, sounds great and has faders to easily control parameters right away

Even worse is when companies decide to coat the entire body of the device with a rubber coating - especially fun if you live in a humid environment like me - My Push 2 became so horribly sticky, I had to spend a few hours scrubbing it off. Thankfully I upgraded to a Push 3 last year, and Ableton thoughtfully decided not to use this rubber crap. That was good of Novation to supply you with replacement caps though! They've always had pretty good customer service I think.

Great video man - very well presented - excellent lighting and sound quality! Thanks for covering these 1.1 features, I do follow the development on GutHub, but I often forget about some features (seriously, there are so many new features its mind blowing!) - "paste gently" was one such feature that I totally forgot about, and it's going to be super useful! You really should seriously consider upgrading to OLED though man - it seems trivial, but for me at least, it made working with the Deluge much more enjoyable, especially for certain scenarios, like browsing samples, songs, kits and instruments. It also displays of current gold knob assignment when pressing the effect buttons - SUPER useful to see what params are assigned to the custom knobs. The hardest thing about upgrading to OLED is being away from Deluge for a couple of weeks! Anyway, thanks again - love your Deluge videos and performances!

had no idea there was a brightness default, my life has been improved lol thank you stellar_aria did such a fantastic job with the rings verb port, didn't even think to adjust the HPF and dampening to focus the tone of it iirc the flashing play button indicates something has been culled, but as you said we don't really notice it sometimes. If you have like 4 notes playing and you have 4 synth voices, then that'll be playing 16 total voices as the notes are releasing, so when you ask deluge to play a new note with the previous notes releasing, if play starts flashing it might have culled a couple of those voices and start playing 4 more so you'd have like 18 total voices playing and releasing OMG when was save/load defaults added to performance view???
@BayMud
@BayMud 15 күн бұрын
Ha. I figured starting with the brightness setting would be helpful to someone! Hard to keep up with the progress---I remember testing the ability to save/load multiple sets of performance view settings at one point too (and crossfading between them!), which was super fun, so hopefully that makes it back in. CPU stuff is always tricky. I mostly just wanted to make it clear to people that just because the play button is blinking doesn't mean you'll hear anything "wrong". I love that we have an indicator to know when we're pushing the limits (and can also turn if off when it's yelling at me. Ha)

I would probably just buy the original unit. There are so many of them around in great condition and prices aren't too bad. Can pick up a 106s for example, the version with the speakers, for as low as $1300. Or the regular 106 for $1500 or $1600. That's pretty good for what is an iconic synth basically. I get wanting to save money though that's understandable. But it's one of those icon things it's worth the spend I think.
@BayMud
@BayMud Ай бұрын
Fair enough! Though I think it depends on where you live too. Here I see them for $2000-3000 (CAD) in varying condition, which can get someone a lot of other gear. For me it's also about being portable, so I use the Nymphes more, which cost less than getting new voice chips for an original (which mine will need at some point, but is still fine for now). In the end, it depends what you need/want and can justify for your setup
@Screaming-Trees
@Screaming-Trees Ай бұрын
@@BayMud Fair enough. In the US the situation is a little different. I bought my Juno 60 from Switched On and it was about $1600 back in 2018 I think. The 106 runs at about $1500 to $2300 or so. Can get some great bargains at the lower end of that spectrum though. The main point is there are lots of them available and you can probably snag one at a good price. And it's a classic so those are good reasons to own one anyway. If you need portability yeah of course, the 106 is not the best choice. Dreadbox is great. I'd love one myself personally.
@BayMud
@BayMud Ай бұрын
Yeah, it's not yet priced out of reach for a lot of folks who want a classic, at least (your budget may vary, of course). Personally, if I hadn't been sitting on one for over a decade I don't think I could justify it, as there are so many versatile options out there these days (especially in the portable category), but I'm in a pretty privileged position to have any of this stuff. Ha
@Screaming-Trees
@Screaming-Trees Ай бұрын
@@BayMud Fair enough man. Everyone has their own priorities. You know what, I kind of lean the other way now. I don't want versatility. I am only after sound. It took me a while to get to this point but I am convinced that this is the way for me. Having a dedicated thing for a job etc etc. E.g. my Korg Prologue. I use it only for pads. It is sort of like an Ensoniq SQ series or maybe Prophet VS at times. That kind of hybrid sound (even though it's analogue mostly). It sounds great doing pads and also, which is important, it mixes well doing pads. And that's all it does because that is its strength in the context of what I do. But I understand that's a luxury. Not everyone can afford one synth per job. I produce for a living so for me this is a need. And I would emphasize dedicated tools (one per job) over versatility. For example a Model D (recent reissue is fine) and "pick your poly" would be enough to do almost any edm style but will sound great doing it. Mono is more important so if you can't afford two, mono takes precedence. Can always use ableton for poly duties or whatever you use. But hey that's my workflow and there is something to be said for versatility. I just prefer one or two dedicated options that sound the best in class for what I want (and best here is what I say it is; it's a subjective thing i.e. best for me).

Loved the vid! If you do another one of these on the circuit rhythm, I'd go in the direction of another deep dive on techniques, getting the most out of the unit, etc, as opposed to a pros/cons list. I think this far into a product cycle, there's plenty of feature showcases and pros/cons lists on KZbin, but fewer that dive deep into stretching the product beyond a lofi or techno beat. Hearing you do genreless music based on self recorded samples and stretching them into full tracks was truly a breath of fresh air, and probably my favorite of anything I've seen anyone do on the rhythm. Thanks!
