I didn't know this box is a transformer. My house was newly constructed in 1999 and a visible Transformer is located in the downstairs rear of the house which was originally unfinished, but finished by me in 2002. However, the visible transformer was left sticking out because quite frankly I had no clue as to what it was other than something to do with the doorbell power. Is it possible for a new home to be built with more than one doorbell Transformer device? I ask this question because your video shows a transformer located behind the doorbell chime. So I am now wondering whether the transformer installed in the downstairs rear of my house is actually an unused transformer for powering a Rear Doorbell which we do not presently have installed. In August 2024, I installed an Xfinity Doorbell camera and have begun to notice the actual doorbell chime which is located in my upstairs living room has been randomly buzzing and humming and there has also been random doorbell rings even though no one is pressing the exterior front doorbell/camera. Is this random door bell chime and the random doorbell chiming vibrating/humming the result of an incompatible Transformer? By the way, when I installed the Xfinity Doorbell camera the square door bell two-wire device that came with the Xfivity door bell I wired to the transformer located in the downstairs rear of the house. Is it possible that I wired the wrong transformer which explains why the doorbell chime in my upstairs living room is now humming and buzzing and randomly ringing when no one is at the front door pressing the door bell?

Do you have a video for installing a Ring Doorbell with a digital doorbell? I cannot find the transformer in my home and maybe it is part of the door chime I already have.

Question how do i know what kind of doorbell transformer i need? I bought an Xfinity doorbell and hooked everything up and it wont power on but the video doorbell i had before Xfinity powered up fine,is it possible the camera itself is bad for Xfinity or do i need a more powerful transformer? If i do need. Transformer not sure what voltage i need. Great video btw ! 😊

It should be mounted at least 12 inches from any corner.

Thank you. When there is power supply I used voltage tester at the chime and It is beeping as expected but when I used voltage tester at the ring doorbell wires it is not beeping even though there is power. how come? Later when I turn off all the circuit breakers I still see there is light on ring bell. how is it possible?

Lol. I havent tried yet, but I think I found my transformer watching this video. I was about to return the Transformer that I bought because I had looked around the house, inside the house and on the attic, but couldnt find it anywhere. 🤣🤣

Just an fyi...I have that exact "NuTone" chime (KB-10?) and it was being powered by a NuTune 515-T 10V AC/5va. Both models are no longer sold by "Broan-NuTone. "except from resellers. I could not find the voltage requirements for the chime on it, but found a electrical supply seller selling the internal unit as a replacement with no cover and site listed in the device spec that this particular NuTone chime was rated to be compatible with 16V AC/10VA or 16V AC /15VA transformers. So, there is good possibility that anyone using this particular "dated" mechanical chime with their current or future doorbell(s) who need or want to upgrade to any of the more powerful transformers- 16V AC-24V AC with 30VA or 40VA power ratings, may eventually need (sooner than later) to update their older chime as well in order to still be able to use a "mechanical" doorbell chime and a higher power transformer with their smart devices or video doorbells. Also, for anyone that has this same chime, never lose or damage the cover. Haven't found that same chime cover available anywhere.

‼️It doesn't work if the smoke detector is made in a different region. They make them on a different frequency. We have an Indonesian Ring base, and the smoke detectors were from mexico. We tried to figure out why ours wouldn't work for 3 days 😅

Aside from using cardbaord to shield the door and trim, orient the pin so that the bent part sticks out away from the door.

I love your video. Thanks My original transformer, the green wire wasn't attached to anything. It was stripped, but just hanging loss and lonely by itself. When I replaced it with a new transformer, I put a cap on the green by itself and capped white with white and black with black. Is that correct?
@TwoNerdEFamilies5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! Sounds like your new transformer did not have a ground wire either, so probably not an issue capping the green wire like you did. Is the new transformer working?

A small amout of lubricant will helpyou remove and insert those pins more easily (and to operate less noisily) - but now that I've watched the entire video, oiling tke pins may defeat your friction-based approach. FWIW, an alternative (especially when hinge replacement is required) is to purchase a special door-closing hinge with an internal tensioner mechanism. It looks just like a regular hinge except that its closing force can be precisely adjusted using an Allen wrench inserted into the top of the "pin" (but it's not a traditional pin).
