How much this build cost try do my cummins swap on my o6
@ChaneyOswellАй бұрын
Hey man, when I bought the truck it needed a lot of work that was completely unrelated to the cummins swap (brakes, tires, tie rods, misc details, etc.) I recorded every single thing I purchased for the truck. To go from an old run down truck, with everything that needed to be fixed done I came in right around $14,700 present day. Of all that I wanna say $11,000 was related directly to the cummins swap including the truck, motor and all supporting mods. There are definitely ways to save a few thousand dollars that I would do if I were to build another one.

Sweet truck! I dig your style with the OBS ford and a 12v Cummins! Why not just ditch the cursed TTB front end? Dude they are junk lol. Terrible terrible. Super duty axles! Are your best bet. Trying to find a dana 60 front king pin or even a ball joint axle is near impossible possible. They’ve all been gobbled up from the rock crawler scene and mud trucks. Doing a super duty axle swap would be best, and ditch that TTB garbage. One of fords worst ideas and designs. I know that a solid ford side dana 60 axle, king pin or ball joint axle will bolt right in, no mods needed in place of the TTB. I would assume that the newer super duty axles would also. A tape measure and some quick measuring will tell ya. The newer steering axles that ford uses aren’t terrible. I mean nothing will be as bomb proof as a long pin high pinion dana 60, they are all gone these days, and anyone that has one wants at least a couple grand for it, or $1000 bucks for just the housing and knuckles, everything else can be sourced aftermarket. But yeah, I’d source some steerling super duty axles man! Get that thing driving straight! Love the project. I see it’s about 2 years ago you posted this, so hopefully you still got it and have made some progress! I myself would totally do a fummins. I would never be caught dead driving a powerchoke, I have a soft spot for the ObS body style. But it would be neat to find like a brand brand new ford f350 that has a smoked 6.7l,6.4,6.0l or what ever they are using now days. Heh they all suck with the Emissions garbage. And swap in a plumped 12 valve motor. Heh have a brand new 2023 ford f350 with a 25 year old all Mechanical 12v Cummins engine in it that runs without a single wire! One wire for the alternator, the fuel shut off can be a pull cable setup. lol I see you’re running a non intercooled one. That makes it a lot easier, but it wouldn’t be hard to set up an intercooler and get the egts down. Believe it or not the non intercooled ones have bigger injectors from the factory, I also believe they had a little bit different piston bowl design or something I’ve heard. Like a Marine bowl piston type, that you would see in a marine application. The marine pistons are different, but I’ve heard the non intercooled ones are to. But I know they have a bigger injector than an identical intercooled model. The ve rotary pumps are great! Very reliable and you can easily turn a couple screws and get a 100 horse power tune out of it with a screwdriver. Bump the timing for full effect!

Just bought a 1994 school bus 109,000 miles on it with a 5.9 12v with p- pump , have a 93 idi f-350 4x4 zf5 trans, cab & chassis service truck I’m going to put the cummins in sometime next year, iv been told that I would have to move the radiator forward 2inches or move the transmission back 2 , which is the best or easier way ?
@ChaneyOswell Жыл бұрын
I used a 47rh transmission and ordered mounts from Carrick Customs (i think that's what they're called). Those mounts and that transmission required that I hammer on the fire wall in order to make clearance for the trans and rear valve cover of the motor. I recall that I had to drill new holes in the frame for the trans brace. So I guess I moved the trans back. Radiator is still in its stock location.

Having the same issue currently. You had any luck sorting yours out? My ecu seems to lose power “red light goes out” at the same time the check engine light goes off with key on, try cranking and it won’t fire off. Let it sit and it starts up for 4 to 5 mins then abruptly kills 👍👍 junk

I'm wondering if I've got a similar issue from pressure washing the engine bay. Seems like a stretch tho, It had been like 2 months from that step to reassembly. I gotta get a specialties harness to clean the bay up for the other motor anyway so i'm just gonna do that. @@srmx518

About to do a similar swap, what exhaust manifold did you install? That would help me quite a bit. Thank you.
@ChaneyOswell Жыл бұрын
I used the DPS exhaust manifold for OBS conversion in order to clear the heater core for the A/C. I did a lot of research and you could also flip the original manifold upside down and have a top mount turbo if your manifold will allow you to. The 12v manifolds tend to shrink and the bolts don't line back up sometimes if they've shrunk. That's why I chose to buy a new one.
@zachgarrison8452 Жыл бұрын
Do you have to rewire the usb conversion to the fuse box or can you use the original cigarette lighter wiring?
@ChaneyOswell Жыл бұрын
I believe you would only have to change the connector ends from the original cig. lighter. In my case I had no power on the original 12 volt supply, that's why you see me run a wire from the fuse pannel.

@ChaneyOswell Жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the comment. I got that roof rack off of a land rover that my father came into at the time. I still have the roof rack in the garage just collecting dust, would need to be repainted but I could sell it if you have no luck finding it anywhere else. Maybe try Ebay (it is all aluminum, really light). I bought aero race wheels 15x8 with 0 offset. If I remember correctly I stretched Federal Formoza FD1 185/45r15 tires on those rims to get the lip to reveal itself like that. It was a sick setup and super fun for me as a teenager just starting to learn cars. Glad you're enjoying yours!

Could that plug possibly be just a connection for an upgrade that the car doesn’t have? I know most cars have mass produced wire harnesses so that one fits all and there are sometimes options that need extra plugs so all cars come with the extra plug wether it’s used or not. One way to check is to put a volt meter to it
@ChaneyOswell Жыл бұрын
I will try that, the only reason I think it gets plugged in is because it is clean inside. All the other unused plugs are greasy or dirty on the connections
