I'm moody and excessive so the different setups I could take with me is just stupid. If I'm just plain 'ol vlogging, I'll take the action4/pocket 3. If I know I'm going to try to get wildlife shots it's the a7R V with the 70-200 f/2.8 GM ii with the 1.4X extender. Currently, my go to setup is the a6700 with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 C lens. It covers vlogging and street pics for my usual day to day stuff.

@@hasenmyer I've used both the 1.4X and the 2X and have to say the 2X wasn't a good experience. It made autofocus hunt a lot if it even focused at all and it introduced a lot of noise/softness. Hi Adam. I totally get where you're coming from. I’m in a similar spot since I don't do pro work-I'm mostly filming my life and travels. I usually carry my a6700 with a couple of lenses, a GoPro, and the Pocket 3, just to be ready for whatever comes up. Since I'm often solo with my 10-year-old son, I try to keep things simple without worrying too much about settings and accessories. On my last Disney trip, I recorded the road trip with the Pocket 3, using Tilt-locked mode to keep the horizon stable in the car. Once we got to the park, I ditched the Pocket 3 and used my Pixel 8 Pro (often with Night Sight Video mode on) after realizing I left an ND filter on the Pocket 3 during a dark ride. I did shoot one scene from the balcony with the a6700, but overall, the versatility of the phone was key for capturing different lighting conditions and focal ranges at Disney. Plus, I was already loaded up with a backpack full of essentials, so keeping it light made sense. In the end, it turned out to be one of my best videos with minimal editing.

@TimBrownTown

@@hasenmyer I agree. I don't even enjoy shooting with the Pocket 3, but it's the perfect tool to use while driving to capture a road trip (IMHO). I think you use the best gear that you have that doesn't detract from the experience. Even if it's a GoPro Hero 10. But if I'm constantly watching over my shoulder at the beach to make sure someone doesn't swipe my camera bag with 4k worth of gear in it, then I think it's a net negative.
@DansHotShots

I'd rather bring a full frame camera with the smallest possible lenses while traveling. Modern mirrorless full frame are usually pretty small and they all have some very reasonably sized primes. I've traveled with the z7ii/50mm 1.8/24-70 f4 and r5/28mm/50mm. both setups are only fractionally larger and heavier than say a fuji x mount with 2 comparably fast lenses.

The whole views thing is confounding - a one take, zero effort offering gets 10,000 hits and a video I put hours of work into gets 72!! I'm 69, I would love to see you do tutorial videos on very basic YT topics - how to put music on, put peoples comments on the screen, best basic editor and how to use, how to make shorts from regular content etc - lots of retirees out there struggling with the very basics! If you want to grow your channel, it requires the same focus and attention as growing any business - strategy, budget, time, etc. Gear/product launch videos are getting stale and I think most people would agree. However, the long term 6-month use videos are VERY popular and actually useful because most people don't run out to buy the new shiny thing on release day. My most successful videos are the ones that I have been most passionate about - happy, sad, angry - you name it! The other videos doing really well are any type of tutorial. If you are struggling with something, chances are someone else it to - which would make a GREAT video topic! Lastly, thumbnails and titles make a HUGE difference on YT. I don't spend nearly as much time on that stuff as I should. At the end of the day, it's not about growing your channel if it's just for fun. As long as you can look back on prior videos and laugh, it's all good!

Great comment & there's the rub - treat it like a business and only produce content that will get maximum views and the fun element tends to go out of the window! I'm 69, and using a once drowned Gopro 10 (left the door open surfing!) a coffee drowned laptop held together with duct tape & an almost farcical lack of computer skills & I have so much fun & have made a lot of friends! :)

thanks for the thoughtful comments and your right. I see people with 70-80k subs get less than 5K views on launch videos. I'm wondering how long the whole thing is going to hold, are companies going to be willing to pay long term for videos with low viewer counts? How much is 2-3k views worth to a company...IDK.You are also correct in treating it like a business, unfortunately I'm much too busy to take things beyond my current levels of commitment. Also I can't stand the thought of writing an actual script for each and every video. So for now just I'm going to keep on trucking along and having fun!

Wow, 80lbs is amazing - I'm down 44 & can really feel the difference! Don't give up on golf! Your back problems are probably caused or exacerbated by an exercise you're doing at the gym plus carrying all that weight. For me, the fix was riding an electric skateboard - the constant twisting and carving side to side strengthened my back, legs and core & it's great fun! Another potential solution is rebounding - very gentle and almost effortless but huge benefits - NASA used these to regrow muscle and bone in returning astronauts! I've just bought one & in one 20 min session of the gentlest bouncing, my knee injury dramatically improved! :)
