Thank you for your video. You saved me a lot of time and money. It’s ridiculous that you have to pay $10 to get exposure. They should rotate the sellers (somehow) to be fair, but I guess they just want to make money, too. Also, are people there to win things or are they there to buy things? It’s sad that you have to bribe them to stay in the show. I think I’m going to try the swap meet to see what happens, and in person selling. The eBay listings are a pain, but after listening to your spreadsheet details, I think I make more money on eBay per item than I would if I sold it very cheaply on Whatnot. I’m no expert, but it looks like it’s worth it to put in the effort of doing the listings. Also, I’ve been lazy and not using a spreadsheet, but you made me realize that I need to do that so I can actually see all the details and make decisions from it. It would be nice if eBay would find a way of making the listings easy. Again, thank you so much for your video.

It’s important to put in the original cost for your taxes. It’s part of the Costs of Goods Sold (COGS) or basis when you file taxes

To be effective, you have to be ON camera. You have to "dress up" and be camera ready. And it's difficult to get started on the site IMO. I've tried 3 times and had to delete my account each time because it's really a MOBILE app. You can't get pass "go" without downloading the app. So if you're on a laptop/desktop computer -- forget it.

I don't think it's worth it to sell stuff for a couple of £ or $'s because of the fees. I had the same problem with ebay, but they've now scrapped the fees which is better. Hope other apps and sites follow suit.

Hmm, as a buyer and seller with experience it is clear that the profit is not there yet. If you think it will get better then go, on but as long as you are selling items at such low proft, it is too much effort for the low profit. It is not only the time being live selling, it is the shipping too. So far I am not impressed, as long as Whatnot has existed, they are advancing too slow on acquiring buyers.

I just started adding things to Depop yesterday and found your video today, thank you! I just got rid of a few things that haven't sold and I've lowered the price to almost nothing. Most of it was stuff the younger generation would wear. I should have probably tried listing it there first, I definitely will try that the next time I clean out some things. How is it going for you on Depop?

I don’t think you’re wasting your time, so long as you’re having fun and not taking away too much from your main source of income, I think your Whatnot activity will be profitable in time and there’s potential to be very profitable on Whatnot

@@HustleSlowI’m in the same age group and have the same issue! Been reselling off and on for almost 20 years now but Y2K stuff is so triggering to me - I still find so much of it horrendous and so tacky it’s harder to gauge. I guess this is what it means to officially be old 🙃

I so appreciate your positivity. Yes, it always comes down to fundamentals. I big leak for me was postage on eBay. They encourage sellers to offer free shipping, and I went along with that for years. This year, I changed all my listings to calculated shipping, and rounded up all my weights to the next pound. I sell lots of books and household items, and this exercise quickly made me realize how I had been enriching the post office at the expense of my bottom line. Great advice on cross-listing. I tried it because of your earlier videos and saw an immediate jump in sales. You are the best!

Perfect timing- on vacation right now and my ebay time away ends tonight. Might try to stretch my shipping time next time I do a short trip like this and see how it goes. In June we did a 2 week Alaska trip and the first day my time away started I sold 6 items- I never sell that many in a day!😂 I was hoping this trip would be the same, but things are about normal this time. Thanks for the ideas.

You’re the only e-comments I cheer for because you give out so much info for free. You’re so kind ❤’ed I hope you keep rocking it early. I’ve been following you before you had your second baby. I remember when you took a break and you guys drove around and I think it was a convertible bus that you made a camper out of. Anyway, I just love you and I hope you keep making bankroll after bankroll. I wanted to ask you a question , you’re so knowledgeable and you’re so intelligent. So I often wonder why don’t you do Shopify? No, I’m not trying to sell you classes lol. I’m kicking around the idea of doing it myself. you’re the only person I trust to explain why you don’t. I think you would rule and triple what you’re making. But what do I know all I do is eBay. I hate packaging and then shipping my items. I chose to do vintage items. Ugh I literally wrap each item in seven different materials and then I fill the box with packing the peanuts. Sometimes the cost of shipping has eaten up all my profit, and I actually spent more money than what I paid the item for. I absolutely love the shopping part. Garage sales, estate, sales and the Salvation Army.. I have purchased (This only happens a few times.) items for $15 and turned around and sold it for $3500. A lot of people don’t realize what grandma had for years that maybe is ugly to them is actually worth a lot of money. I would still be doing it today. The packaging and the shipping my profit. )” I started doing it because you were the only person I could find honest. It was the hole in my product. I made big money so I wasn’t thinking correctly because I totally overlooked packing and shipping ugh live and learn right. I hope people out there read my message. Oh my gosh, Melissa! Thank you for sticking around all this time!! I do have a Shopify store where I sell digital products. Shopify is just the ecommerce platform so you can sell all kinds of stuff on there. The problem with going with Shopify or creating your own store anywhere (whether you're selling digital or physical products) is that you need to drive traffic yourself which is always something I struggle with. Ebay, Poshmark & Mercari provide you with the buyers so you don't have to spend your time marketing. Thank you again for being here and for the sweet comments!

I will be recording one tomorrow, similar to this one with much more information. I love your video here. You nailed it. Everything you said is true. Anyone who does not view their reselling business as a real business, or delves deeply into market research, really should be doing something else they enjoy and/or good at. Why? I have come across people thinking reselling is a fast easy way to make tons of money. They think you take a picture, list it and see the money rolls in. Often they are disappointed and quit. Most famous lines of people, "Everyone else is doing it and making money, how are can it be? you just take a few pictures and stick it on eBay." Even now with sales being rocky, people are walking away, I will be talking about this video in my video, and referring others to your channel if that is ok with you.

Have you tried doing a $2 C P F format for a show? I have been in shows where u show an item ppl type C to claim an item and have it put into a stack. First person to type C gets the item. If 2 or multiple ppl want the item they have to say if they want to pass on the item to the first person or fight for the item in an auction. And u keep going allowing ur buyers to build up a stack of items and then when they are ready to check out u would do one auction sale for all of their claimed items. So if their pile had 10 claimed items u would set the auction for $20 and tell others not to bid. This way you would only pay 30 cents on the one transaction of $20 rather than 30 cents for every individual sale of the 10 items the person bought from you.

@@eagleeye2427 P would be for pass. So if two ppl claim the same item one of them can decide to pass on the item to the other person. F stands for fight. If multiple ppl claim an item and no one wants to pass on it so one person can have it then you start an auction for tht item. I have not done shows but I have been in on what not streams using this method when the start price for items are low and have bought several items this way.

I agree with you. I started selling on Whatnot because i hate listing and taking picture's. This way i can get rid of the things faster. You need to list things a lot cheaper to get people to buy unless you have a lot of followers. More expensive items I list on Mercari and Ebay. Now I've been doing Mystery shows because they're fun.

@@HustleSlow I've been doing mystery doll shows. The first show I sold out before the show started with buy it now. The second show was too expensive, so i didnt sell. Third show I did auction, took 3 hours to sell out. But the people on there said they had fun.

It’s my first time using Poshmark and I had emailed two people a photo of my items so far, I got a email saying they purchased them. I went to my sales and I don’t see anything, do I need to collect the payment first? If so it was loading and it’s taking forever to verify my card.

You shouldn't have to email anything to anyone. When someone buys on Poshmark it'll show under "My Sales".

I sell EBay, Posh, Depop and Mercari. I am looking at whatnot because I do buy on whatnot to resell. It’s just intimidating to think about doing a live show. Thx for the breakdown of how it went for you. I too have items I would love to just get rid of instead of taking the time to list them. Might need to give it a try.

I usually don't give away items that are sized. I tried to do things like hair ties, candy, sleep marks, face masks (like the skincare kind), etc.
