@@emmabennett3985 it’s my new found thread head from NOAC! I did remember you said you would comment on the channel. Yes back in the day the medals were flat so that you could have your name engraved but ironically very few Scouts did this.

I like the sounds of how you are recycling the modern scout uniforms. I am a leader of a troop that has high poverty rates and having a clothes closet they can pull uniforms out of is helpful. We rotate outgrown shirts and no longer used shirts back into the closet. Scouts keep the patches they earned along the way.

My daughter has been to three Eagle Ceremonies recently. One had the scout's career of patches in a frame. Another had science fair trifolds (brother and sister were reaching Eagle together). My daughter has been thinking of how to best display her patches in her room, at a ceremony, and beyond. She's leaning toward a tapestry display with patches sewn on. There are lots of great ways to display patches to help tell the story of a scout or a region.

I like the spoof patches. I recently bought a Gieco pocket flap with giant eyeballs because I thought it was funny. I'm adding spoof merit badges to the back of my wife's leader handbook cover

@@johnm.withersiv4352 I think spoof patches are fun. As long as it’s silly and not too over the top offensive or trying to slide through like it’s official.

@@TheSanteeswapper Agreed. Spoof patches shouldn't be fun or overtly political so they can be fun for everyone. I like jokes that have a certain "camp" campiness.

Hi, I was in Troop 294 from 1963-1966. The second photo shows my friend back then Ed Elsie in front. The guy with the glasses on the right, last name is Skornik, his brother Dana on the left, I think 1964. That might be Eds house. It was about 4 blocks from me. Dang, I should have kept my uniform!

So for a little context overall in the BSA about 5% of all youth who join the program achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. It takes a lot of hard work and determination. Just a total guess but I would think that in his day and age it was surely less than 1%. I am so glad that Nina helped me share this story.

I remember back in the late 1970s into the early 1990s , pins were a big "thing"...any event had a patch ,cup , and a pin or two...later in life , I gave most of my pins away as mini awards and "atta-boys "....I was not a collector /trader..just a District / Troop level volunteer...it was fun...KIS-MIF !!!!

My friends old house went to estate sale and lots of 80's scout stuff. They were both Eagle. I was not able to get a lot of it because 25c items were $5 and so on but people were still buying it. I'm so glad they did $10 a bag at the end of the2 weekend sale getting one of the brothers scrap books (even some group pics with me!) and some patches. Everything was there, cub stuff, Jambo stuff, cups, T-shirts, EXCEPT OA flaps and their uniforms. They wanted $75 (not $7.50) for an 80's Cub Scout uni! I think it sold on 1/2 off day.

the issue with Scouting memorabilia is the "hunger" of the market for a certain type of Scouting item...I have seen a item "hang on the E-Bay sale list " for three years before the item was sold...at a steep discount...just to get rid of it..The $100+ prices are meaningless except for select collectors...not for the every-day former Scout / Scouter....
