I got a Sears 18 ( B&S ) that i'm working on today..i rebuilt the fuel pump in winter ( new kit ) and used it a couple times..then sat till Spring..went to use it and it is not idling or pulling fuel ( again ) so putting an electric pump in to test....before i yank it apart ( again )...🤬 i had it running ok but it was dying and shutting off soon after i ran around yard...could be the carb needs some luv again ( i cleaned it on engine like you ) but i felt i had cleaned it enough ( i cringed at your carb cleaning 😂 )... that is my last thing to do... i will know after the Electric pump confirms at " least " i am getting fuel ( my filters showed no gas being pulled ) .... i just want to cut some grass before digging into it deeper.... might be the carb too.. oh i replaced all my fuel line too.... old lines ..i thought the fuel outlet seemed loose ( it was ) and needed to confirm no leaks anyways..tank is pretty clean ( i forgot to clean it but it did flow fine and is plastic... when they run they are great...acting up..not so great 🇨🇦🤓🤟

Best to till after plowing. the harrow doesn't really do much, the tractor compacts the soil more than the harrow can loosen it.

I’ve beat my ST16 pretty hard. Predator swapped it off the bat. Rly fun unit. Have a few Deere’s & seem like more of them in my area. Whenever I find these they’re pretty worn out. Milky transmission oil, & bad fuel system destroyed. The old engine ram good but because it’s hard to get Tecumseh parts I took the motor off for that. You are right I’ve seen a few clean tractors on FB, & if I see one that’s decently clean for 300 that isn’t completely destroyed I’m buying it. I’ve got 4 units rn, & I’m out of room. I wonna get a 1968-1974 110 with the 10hp but I can convert to a bigger Kohler cuz I’ve collected the motors cuz they’re getting hard to find virgin engines.

If you plow it in the fall and let the ground go through the winter freeze you'll find that the dirt will do much better, it'll work up like sand. Or it does in Kentucky.

Very cool thanks for sharing , I been looking for a few years but I could never find one of those with the second transmission must be pretty rare, ended up getting an old John Deere 140 with tiller it’s hydrostatic so can just creep real slow

Dad was a dealer for years, i still have his original 66 model as well as a 72 for blade work and an 81 with loader. Use em all and love em! A suggestion on your jim dandy, you really need to have the dual trans to make it work right, or the low speed JD that yours isnt.. Glad to see ya working it thogh, and nice video!

I have a 1974 Cub Cadet that my dad bought when I was a kid. Still looks and runs good, although I replaced the 10hp Kohler with a fresh 14hp Kohler of the same period. The 10 ran fine, but I always found it to be a bit underpowered. It’s a much more capable tractor with the 14. I also have a 1995 Simplicity Sovereign I bought new in 95. Mowed and plowed snow with it for 25 years until I replaced it with a ztr. It’s now just plows snow.

As far as I’ve seen, a sears tractor is the only thing I’ve seen that uses belts that doesn’t throw them or rip them within 15 minutes of pulling

I have the chance to buy one of these in about the same condition. One owner. Stored in a dry heated basement. No mower deck, but it has a snowblower and front plow. $750. Is that a lot to pay?
@matthughes1614
@matthughes1614 Жыл бұрын
Decent deal overall, well kept, two attachments, single owner units are the best. 750 isnt bad for one like that. The attachments have about 400$ in value by themselves. 3pt? Does it run or will you have to get it goin?

@@matthughes1614 It hasn't ran in a few years but again, it's inside a house. Buried behind a bunch of stuff. I sent him a message about a time we can try to start it. Will make a video.

I don't think i have any control over the subscribe button, I wish i did. Id get ya one asap lol I don't think so, I wouldn't be scared of it, if it's dried up, it's not active. Clean it up, get it running and watch for fresh oil, and then fix accordingly. Every one i bring back to life i run at 1/3 throttle for a while and just listen and watch, these old units will tell you what they need. Cant wait to hear about it running and your journey to attachment hunting!

Mine is leaking out of the fuel pump gasket, not all of them have a fuel pump, so its not always an issue. 200$ is a good deal, even if you have to clean it up and possibly change gaskets. Definitely go get it. Thanks for the view and the comment, I'm actually planning to make a couple vids soon, as I've had some developments in my hobby and finally have time to make content again!

I have the same tractor with a mower deck & one bottom plow that I got from my Dad . The Onan engine was ruined so I replaced it with a 11 hp Honda GX somthing engine. This was about 40 years ago now , it works perfectly but I cant find 14.25" mower blades for it now since Sears went out of business. I'm glad to have found you'r show .

I have the ST/16 with all the tools for the garden. It appears that the coulter is not low enough on the plow. It should do the verticle cutting while the plowshare does the horizontal cut. Also your depth for most garden plants should be at least 6 inches. It is good to see these old tractors in action.

I just happened to run across your video. (Yep, I subscribed). I had a ST12 Sears, 1974, that had that knock. It turned out the connecting rod was loose. I tightened it. It came loose again. I tried new connecting rod and bolts. Never would stay tight. Then I messed up and sold it. Now, I have a ST16 that is beyond rough. I've got a few videos on it. Everything was stuck from the engine to the seat. I'll be watching. Doc
